Do I expect people to actually comment on a blog in this age of social media? Not really. Was it fun to add such a weird commenting system, even with the pain of AWS Lambda configuration and troubleshooting? Yes, absolutely.

Me: Hmmmm, should I look into some way to add comments to my static-site blog?

Claude Code: here, let me build a commenting system that creates PRs on your repo with a custom-written Lambda and walk you through how to set it up.

Me: okay

Still a lot of work to do, like adding OpenGraph images for better preview cards :)

The ZIPScribble Map Interactive US ZIP code scribble map

Specifically, I've reimplemented my ZIPScribble map to be interactive. You can now zoom by hovering over the navigation bar at the bottom, by numeric range or by state (US only for now). eagereyes.org/app/zipscrib...

I haven't been very active here or, uh, anywhere. But I just completely revamped my website and will be adding more stuff over time. I'm also bringing back some of the things I broke in a previous transition. Take a look and let me know what you think! eagereyes.org

That's-a-me (when I was still at Observable)! We mostly talked about my background, industry vs. academia, visualization research and how much it makes it into products, and also treemaps. Oddly, pie charts only make a very brief appearance. It was fun to record, and I think it's worth your time.

Any chance you'll add LUTs for the iPhone camera(s) as well? Would be great for matching with D-Log shots.

Eh, turns out my vibe-coding skills didn't include thinking about the rate limit. Not a big deal for this though, I'll just have to wait for the timeout and then run it again.

I honestly don't know why I thought importing tweets was such a great idea. Maybe it's just staring down all the time I spent writing almost 10,000 tweets over 16 years. But nobody cares about all that old stuff anyway, and there's so much context missing.

I just vibe-coded a little Python script that is currently deleting all my old imported tweets that I had transferred over here. It's pretty simple, just goes by post date (since I didn't post here before I stopped tweeting), and the BlueSky API and Python SDK (and Copilot…) make this super simple.

3001 > 3000! 😅There’s no way they can fill the bottles with such accuracy anyway.

Awww why not? Maybe live-stream instead?

Having said all that, I'm glad the show has been renewed. It will be interesting to see how they make the whole ART dynamic work in the next season, and maybe that'll be more fun. Fewer humans, more bots (though I know there are humans in the second book too).

It's also weird how they make a big deal out of it calling itself MurderBot, and then it's forgotten in the next episode and never comes up again. There are just generally a lot of loose threads and things that are never explained in the show, the books felt much more complete and consistent to me.

The show had to give the humans stuff to do I guess, while the books can just ignore them when they're not needed. But the humans in the show are whiny and pathetic, especially Mensah. Maybe it's because I've read the later books, but this is not how I pictured her at all. She's much more assertive.

I'm sorry to say that the MurderBot show on AppleTV was pretty meh. The books have more dry humor and good pacing, but the show is just boring. There's also a lot more world-building in the books. Since they're all inner monologue, a lot can be explained without it feeling overdone.

Morant’s Curve! Nice. Looks beautiful! Last time I was there was in -30 degrees in January…

Exciting! Though there's a typo in the URL included in the other post :)

Interesting! I have a pretty rare last name too (fewer than a dozen people I know of), and it's probably Hungarian or maybe Serbian (possibly Bulgarian), not entirely clear. It went through a few different spellings, so hard to trace.

There's a beautiful new (in English) comic about Muybridge. It's very well done, both as a story and a comic. Highly recommended. www.goodreads.com/book/show/23...

Are they on a dimmer? I’ve seen this with lights on dimmers when the dimmer isn’t at 100%. Or if there’s a voltage fluctuation perhaps?

Ah, that's too bad. But thanks for the pointer! Hopefully it'll come back at some point.

I thought there was a way to mark accounts here as bots, even saying who's running them. Am I imagining this?

A confusion of dashboards? An overwhelm of dashboards? An ignoring of dashboards? A murder of dashboards?

Oh wait, was that a serious question?
