The main criticism though must be how this man was given a licence to own a firearm.
He had a criminal record for violence a couple of years ago, and it seems no-one could be bothered to check his social media page(s).
For the victims and the grieving, sackings must happen.

There are many questions to be asked about how this could happen and the role of police.

The attacker was eventually killed by security forces inside a supermarket (see 1st post in this mini-thread) where he had taken hostages. They released this photo, which I've censored.
Among the victims are a man and wife. Their son, aged 10, was also shot but survived.

The shooter has not been officially identified but it's widely confirmed he was a 58 year old Ukrainian citizen, though born in Moscow.
On an old Facebook account purporting to be his, racist and offensive anti-Ukrainian posts have been found, though I cannot verify he wrote them.

Six people were shot dead, one of whom is the attacker, neutralised by police, but not before he murdered 5 others on Demiivska, just south of the city centre.

In Kyjiw hat ein Mann laut Bürgermeister Vitali Klitschko sechs Menschen getötet. Neun weitere Menschen seien verletzt worden, so Klitschko.
Der Angreifer habe im Stadtteil Holossijiwskyj das Feuer eröffnet. Wie ukrainische Behörden mitteilten, nahm er zudem in einem Supermarkt Geiseln.
