Folks, this was exactly 10 years go.
The review didn't even really make this argument. I think this was a misstep by whoever wrote the subhead.
There are valid conversations to be had around bias and low-value content. Lord knows we're not perfect! But lost in this uproar is the fact that *news outlets produce information people need to do their jobs better.* They create real value that many employers (govt included) are willing to pay for.
By this logic, every media org that pays for staff subscriptions to rival pubs is "funding" their competitors.

The 3 million people awaiting benefit increases under the Social Security Fairness Act could be waiting for a year, says the SSA.
The agency, which is already short-staffed, received no money to implement the changes and says much of the work must be done manually on a case-by-case basis.
Now that the Social Security Fairness Act has become law, Some public workers who filed for benefits before full retirement age within the past year might want to revoke their claim. But this decision must be made carefully, says Covisum founder Joe Elsasser.
The oldest Gen Xers turn 60 this year. Their retirement will probably look much different than boomers'.
