The diamond example is more apt when you can conceive of discussing how pretty diamonds are, knowing that you'd prefer that only lab-made ones were commercialised.
But at its core, these co-design processes, whilst they can be creative, I can't see them as leading to anything groundbreaking, truly innovative, or paradigm shifting.
You're anchoring yourself in a very specific way that serves a narrow purpose but can it really push software engineering forward?
