“Hey, Teenagers: Pay close attention to the books people try to ban. Then, make a beeline to read those books, if you can. Find out for yourself why those people want that book banned. Find out for yourself if they can be trusted to know what’s best for you.”

My ws students of the time couldn't imagine of why women might employ domestic workers: didn't understand household labor, thought hiring was necessarily exploitative bc (here's the thing) many couldn't imagine domestic work as dignified work. (I had been a hotel chambermaid, so....)

I structured the senior seminar in WS at WI around narratives of knowing women's lives. I wanted different works that complicated the women's studies of the early period, esp to look at what came to be known as intersectionalities among women. So worked well, relatively easy read. (see next)

Well, when you prefer not to hire women or African Americans you are diminishing your pool and have to lower standards, huh?

Boston Marathon runners cross the finish line as the crowd cheers them on.

Sharing love & joy with all of our runners for today’s Boston Marathon!

And my heart goes out to those navigating healing & remembrance from the trauma of the attack 13 years ago.

Today and every day, I'm grateful for our city's unity and the power of our community.

Sounds amazing, hard work, fun. I “fire” tones that don’t do well (different criteria); a couple have morphed. Then, having promised me no more, I see something intriguing. And NH is hard on growing, so they respond differently different years. sometimes my seed saving works, sometimes not so much.

Every once in a while when I remember this is the President of the United States, the President of my beloved country, I just have to stare at a wall try to zone out a little. Safer than turning to drink like his FBI chief or Secy of Defense.

If you kill your wife, you don't get to be a husband anymore Some lessons from the media coverage of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer's murders.

My latest.

I’ve been watching the media coverage of the murders of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.

One way media can fight back against male violence:

If you kill your wife, you don’t get to be called a “husband” any more.

You’re her killer.

I remember in grad school we had to understand the viewpoint diversity between Phil Converse and Dean Burnham. Like is that what they mean? (Sorry, folks outside American politics. And by the way, chez moi, Phil always won. So maybe not.)

I don't know the future or potential of AI. But I remember well as dean when we were told we were going to go big time into MOOCs because it was "the future" and we didn't want to be left behind... when I asked skeptical question I got slammed for obstructionism. Just asking. Just trying to refine.

You know, when you look at that bunch of people around the guy who supposedly leads them, bunches of them are bat sht crazy. And most of them are evil. And that is a Venn diagram with big time overlap, starting at the top.
