Totally agree. The issue is that avenues of distribution for that kind of art are dwindling, because those in control of what gets made don't have the same taste/goal as the audience. I think plenty of people enjoy art that challenges them, but the people funding the art are more concerned with ROI.

This trend is destroying "left wing art" as well. I believe that there is a concerted effort to water down all art in the mainstream for "mass appeal" and "highest earning potential," but also the nefarious purpose of filling the void where intellectually nourishing art once existed with slop.

We have a society that, as a whole, quantifies art numerically ie: box office, budget, hours streamed, views, clicks. We have given too much air to the idea that art's only value is financial and turned over too much power and influence to people who believe in only that idea.

We're currently pumping ungodly amounts of money into coal to preserve obsolete jobs in swing states. The wealthy have decided that coal is viable. They are deciding that AI is viable.

Counterpoint: We've de-funded nearly every green initiative we have to the complete detriment of our economic and environmental future over the insistence that climate change is not real by the minority of Americans. - The wealthy decide what is true, consequences be damned.
