The thing that kills me about this, aside from just the sheer horror of it all, is that there was a mountain of information available to voters- including from Trump himself-that made it clear what he intended to do. And he still won a free and fair election.

Trump's first CDC director was forced out two weeks after she stood up for evidence-based public health. Coverage at the time said it was because she had tobacco investments. Guessing that was a lie.

Weird that they would fire the navy secretary who’s been overseeing a war we’ve won at least five times.
Beyond being Trump’s shill as well as a liar about his links to Epstein, Lutnick truly is a shit.
Moreover, blue states that have generated partisan maps have put time limits on their use. In CA, we revert to the more democratic, non-partisan redistricting in four years. That media coverage doesn't explain this is a disservice to voters.
Doesn't this just set them up to argue we need to spend on defense rather than domestic programs? It's their happy place.
All this to close a strait that was open.
If such an audit we're conducted honestly, Americans would find out that big ticket fraud in healthcare is always corporate.

Media outlet repeatedly fail to cover that the redistricting plans passed by blue states are time limited. Blue states lead the nation in making redistricting nonpartisan. Yes, they are giving up that principal to fight for democracy, but only temporarily.

The ongoing efforts to weaponize the DOJ against Trump's enemies poses a profound danger to democracy and the rule of law
This administration is like a mashup of Birth of a Nation, Dr. Strangeglove, Veep, and Scandal.
Also helpful is pointing out that public opinion is responding to attacks from prominent conservatives. I doubt you get much decline in public trust of academia without elite level attacks. And those are happening because of universities' successes, not their failures.

Happy Tax Day, New York. We’re taxing the rich.
I like to imagine that Zohran Mamdani, Socialist African-born Muslim, was literally willed into existence by the collective psychosis of the Tea Party GOP over Obama, like the ectoplasm under NYC in Ghostbusters II
Here’s the thing—especially on April 15: cutting the IRS isn't some abstract budget trim. It's a tax cut delivered through weaker enforcement. And it mostly goes to people with the most scope to hide income.
@jamestalarico.bsky.social expone la estafa de los vales para escuelas privadas:
“Vas a tomar los impuestos de fontaneros y enfermeros para subsidiar la matrícula de familias adineradas que ya tienen a sus hijos en escuelas privadas.”
Alternatively, authoritarians go after academia have generated a lot of problems for universities that have nothing to do with the Ivies incredibly long history of selectively applied admissions standards

When all this is over, I'll keep coming back to the fact that the US both 1) un-sanctioned Iranian oil and 2) blocked Iranian oil exports within a 30-day period as the best encapsulation of the strategic incoherence of this whole war.
The effective federal corporate income tax rate:
1950: 50%
1990: 25%
2020: 13%
Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate.
That is how we will pay for it.

This is a victory for the LGBTQ+ community and for our entire city. It’s a reminder that New Yorkers won’t let our history be rewritten.
Our administration will keep working to ensure LGBTQ+ New Yorkers can live safely and with dignity in our city.

Decades of coordinated corporate attacks on unions have put our country in an inequality crisis & a political system that answers to wealth over the will of the people.
Yesterday, I was proud to stand with workers & rally with @unionnow.org to rebuild the power of working people from the ground up.
The thing is, this is not like previous rounds.
