Canada's Prime Minister for one.

covid threw into high relief how many working class people are absolutely necessary to keeping society functional, and rather than that sparking a renewed commitment to an economy that rewards such workers, we've seen an elite backlash against even modest increases in their market power
Important note: most Canadians don't know this. It's a hard-kept secret.
In Canada if a scanned price doesn't match the shelf price, the item is free if the shelf price is under $10, or $10 off the item if the shelf price is over $10. It's a voluntary program but almost all major chains have signed on.

That would cost money. Much better to invoice the government a few million to move a painting or fix a toilet and take a vacation that actually fix the systems they're in charge of.
It's pretty blatant. "People have disposable income? We won't stand for it!!"
Wonder if our American "friends" will return the favor from a few months ago and send help?

Self-identifying as a centrist is perhaps the most cynical and amoral political identity you can have because you're just openly admitting your beliefs aren't really beliefs they're just strategic positions that only exist relative to others in the room you happen to be in
Lotta people glancing over that list of 4 times Habeas Corpus was suspended and not realizing the most recent one was used to build concentration camps for people of Asian descent on American soil.

If you're in the Southern Manitoba area and want a lovely young dog, my current foster dog is now up for adoption!

The US Embassy in Stockholm threatened the city that any contractors fire their DEI employees.
Stockholm blew them off:
βIf the U.S.A. terminates its acquaintance with the City Planning Office, the embassy will have a hard time with building permits."

Coming out of the gate hot this morning π₯
So as the US falls to tyranny, your solution is to finally do something about the one thing Americans have that exists literally for the purpose of fighting tyranny?
Choosing the right side is literally a no brainer and somehow you still boned it.
I mean, the way property ownership is manipulated so anybody with multiple residences that sells one can easily claim it's their primary for "tax purposes" means even that would have loophole you could drive a lifted F150 through.
The fact that a politician can lose his riding and a week later displace another just-elected MP *in a completely different province* is the modern democratic facade laid bare. If you don't live there, you can't run for office there. This should be a fully uncontroversial take.
I've never spewed so much Leninist theory in normal everyday conversations, *without pushback*, in my entire life....even up here in Canada. Even some of the scary words slipped through the filter and didn't phase people.
The conditions are primed for revolution.
Under Trump, Americans are relearning the lesson we learned about the oligarchy during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good.
I'd argue that slashing education is the biggest single influence. An uneducated population is highly susceptible to propaganda, and in the modern misinformation landscape they have no chance against it.
But...we don't need 30 kinds. The issue here is that families are struggling to afford food, never mind work 1 doll into the budget, with it now going up "a couple bucks"...which also amounts to what, 20% increase? I don't know how much dolls cost.
Do it.
This is preferable
Fingers crossed he gets the hint and takes a walk.
This. There's already talk of an Alberta seat stepping down, but the bye election call is in Carney's hands and he can wait up to 6 months to call it, meaning they'd be down another vote.
I was watching this one, very happy she pulled out the win. She's the kind of MP this country needs more of. A lot more.
Make no mistake Canada, this isn't as much a victory as just avoiding the worst option. 20 years ago Carney would have been a contender to lead the Conservatives. That's just how far Canada has shifted in the Harper and on period. Carney is a further push *right* from Trudeau.

Too bad they can't vote to take away his 6 figure pension.
I get up about 90 minutes before my wife but as I rolled out of bed, she didn't move, didn't open her eyes, she just said "He lost his seat" and I knew exactly what she meant. Never have to listen to that weiner again.
Good read? Absolute banger. π₯
