Don’t be fooled by NYPD Commissioner Tisch’s cynical take: Bail reform is proven to protect and improve public safety.

6 months ago 5 2 0 1

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch promised to strengthen discipline, embrace accountability, and ensure that officers who engage in misconduct face consequences.

But at the first opportunity to follow through on this promise, Tisch has let NYers down.

Five years after the repeal of 50a - the statute that concealed the disciplinary records of police officers - we are still fighting for true police transparency and accountability.

Join us next week for a panel on the impact of repealing 50a, and the road ahead. RSVP: nyclu.org/50a-panel

The CCRB and the Deputy Commissioner for Trials agree that NYPD Officer Rivera committed fireable misconduct when he shot and killed Allan Feliz. Now, NYPD Commissioner Tisch wants to override the decision to fire Rivera.

This is not justice. We call on Tisch to hold abusive officers to account.

We call on Commissioner Tisch to uphold the recommendation to fire Officer Rivera.

Anything less is unacceptable.

NYPD commissioner won't fire officer who killed a man during traffic stop New York City’s police commissioner has declined to fire a police officer who shot and killed a man during a traffic stop

This is only the 2nd time that the Deputy Commissioner of Trials has agreed with a recommendation to fire an officer after a CCRB-prosecuted trial - the other was Daniel Pantaleo, who killed Eric Garner.

Tisch's planned rejection + override is a betrayal of NYers, especially Allan Feliz's family.

Charlotte: Did you see that Cuomo just conceded to Mamdani?
Miranda: I read that Cuomo’s bagel order lost him at least 15 points on the Upper West Side
Samantha: Frankly, I’m glad to see NYers finally adopt my strategy of voting for the hottest candidate

Arresting a public official for asking questions is dangerous intimidation and sends an unmistakably authoritarian message – that ICE doesn’t care about the rule of law, and that anyone exercising their right to challenge ICE and speak up for immigrants will be punished.

A Muslim candidate for mayor of the nation's largest city, defending the rights of a Jewish candidate for mayor, who was arrested for defending the rights of immigrants not to face detention without warrants.

This is the kind of solidarity Trump and his goons fear.

I’d like to ask every single New Yorker who’s remotely left of center to get actively involved in your local Democratic Party chapter with the goal of driving Schumer, Gillibrand, Hochul, Adams, Cuomo and all the other dead wood into retirement.

New Report Highlights NYPD Community Response Team’s Pattern of Abuse

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 11, 2025
MEDIA CONTACT: Mohamed Taguine, 212-607-3372, mtaguine@nyclu.org

NEW YORK CITY – A new report by ProPublica raises the alarm about the Community Response Team, a specialized unit of the New York City Police Department closely tied to Mayor Adams and tasked with cracking down on low-level offenses. In response, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the following statement attributable to Assistant Policy Director Michael Sisitzky:

“The NYPD’s so-called Community Response Team, like other revamped anti-crime units, may have a new name and a new uniform, but they continue to engage in a pattern of abusing New Yorkers, especially people of color. By doing so, they are perpetuating a harmful legacy of unlawful policing that has killed New Yorkers.

“Mayor Adams has reportedly given this unit carte blanche to carry out his harmful policing agenda, from targeting pro-Palestine protestors to unlawfully stopping Black and Brown New Yorkers.

“As Trump is pushing for more police impunity across the country, it is alarming that our city’s leadership is ignoring the lessons we should have learned from decades of police abuse. It’s time to dismantle this unit, stop wasting resources on ineffective and harmful policing tactics and instead invest in our communities.”

I need someone to do an in-depth analysis of just how much traffic Eric Adams personally drives to The Onion's website by making sure that this article is relevant literally every time he opens his mouth

NEW INVESTIGATION from me:

There's a secretive, and frequently abusive unit of the NYPD that's tight w/ Mayor Eric Adams

How tight? Well, the unit's leaders bought special body-cams that can live-stream footage to select users. Then they gave access to the mayor

This weekend, DHS targeted and seized Mahmoud Khalil as punishment for his political speech, and indicated that they are revoking his green card. They have since handed him over to ICE where he is being detained — his location unknown — and held for deportation without due process.

This is what fascist governments do, and it will not stop here. This extreme escalation is the test case; the Trump/Musk administration is trying to see how far they can go without public outrage and legal checks on their power. Now is the moment to speak out and oppose this as fiercely and loudly as possible.

ICE arrests Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia University protests, his lawyer says A prominent Palestinian activist who helped lead last spring's protests at Columbia University has been arrested by federal immigration agents.

The Trump administration’s detention of Mahmoud Khalil — a green card holder studying in this country legally — is targeted, retaliatory, and an extreme attack on his First Amendment rights.

For those who don't know this history, Cuomo personally empowered a breakaway Democratic caucus in the State Senate that called themselves IDC and voted for a Republican to lead the Senate even when Democrats held more seats. This blocked Democratic policy priorities for YEARS.

Andrew Cuomo is the Chaos
Andrew Cuomo is the Chaos YouTube video by Zohran Mamdani for NYC

Andrew Cuomo is running for Eric Adams’ second term: the same donors, the same agenda, the same chaos.

But I believe New Yorkers are hungry for a different kind of politics—one that puts working people first.

A graphic of a flyer. "MISSING" is in bold red text at the top, and at the very bottom of the flyer in the same font reads "LEADERSHIP NEEDED". Underneath "Missing" is the seal of New York State. Below that reads "Have you seen your state representatives" and then a black box encloses the text: "Governor: 1, Senate: 63, Assembly: 150". In small type under the box reads "Has not been seen this year. May be suffering from Trump-induced indecision and inaction. If you have any information, please contact your representative."

URGENT: Have you seen bold leadership from Albany in response to the Trump administration’s attacks on immigrants, trans people, free speech, and more?

Neither have we. Please call your representatives to inquire about #WhereIsAlbany?

Cuomo is no longer “telegraphing” his run, he’s now blasting it like Wagner at a deafening volume.

Adams has to go, but we can’t trade one disgraced dishonest narcissist for another.
