Years of censorship, intimidation, and anti-Palestinian rhetoric have created a culture of fear in our schools. We deserve better. Our students deserve better. This must change, and now.

Teachers have received letters to file and been targeted by major media outlets for sharing factual information about the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
Students have had fundraising posters for Gaza torn down and school announcements censored. Others have been threatened for wearing keffiyehs or posting in support of Palestinian rights.
Uphold academic freedom and the right to free speech and protest. Protect students and families who support Palestinian rights. Refuse to remain impartial while students, families, and educators are being targeted and harassed. Express solidarity with students protesting in universities across the country. Do not adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. Divest. End contracts with companies that profit from apartheid, occupation, and genocide, and ensure accountability by increasing transparency around contracts.
Support educator autonomy and agency in developing curriculum on a range of subjects that respond to the needs of students. Empower and support schools to hold brave spaces and engage with accurate history to combat Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian, and Anti-Arab racism. End contracts with curriculum vendors that reinforce harmful rhetoric about Palestinians and promote Zionism. Curricular materials that teach Palestine and Israel must include historical information about the Nakba and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians that lead to the creation of the state of Israel. Curricular materials must be based on a framework of international law and human rights.
Support pro-Palestinian students, families, and educators. End the targeted repression of Palestinian students, families, educators, and their allies on and off school campuses, including through disciplinary processes. Refuse to bow to calls to discipline young people for taking action and expressing their views. Mobilize additional mental health resources for students who are grieving the genocide.
Since this group’s formation in 2019, no chancellor has addressed these issues including the current chancellor, Melissa Aviles-Ramos. As such, we ask that the incominig administration consider the following when selecting the next chancellor:
Over the years, educators, students, and families across the city have faced harassment, doxxing, censorship, and disciplinary action for expressing solidarity with Palestine.
As we head into the new year, Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues, and the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the West Bank persists. These realities underscore the urgency of ensuring that NYC Public Schools are led by leadership committed to truth, justice, and the protection of educators’ and students’ rights to teach, learn, and speak freely in pursuit of a more just future.
As the mayoral administration transitions, NYC Educators for Palestine asks the incoming administration to consider and respond to the following experiences and demands.
Jamaal Bowman presents an equity and justice model of leadership that prioritizes people over bureaucracy. NYC Educators for Palestine is proud to stand in support of him as our next chancellor.

The teachers left inspired and determined to chip away at the investments in Israeli companies, knowing that campaigns like this take many years to organize before being successful.

So many mutual aid requests coming out of Gaza.
People are desperate for food, medicine, water.
If you can’t donate, the least you can do is share.
Literally ethnic cleansing.
Please donate and share, share, share! Thank you so much.

MORE CONCILIATORY THAN PREVIOUS AUTHORITARIANS, WILL NEW YORK SEE A NEW DAY DAWNING?: “Zohran supports an end to mayoral control and envisions a system instead in which parents, students, educators and administrators work together,”

Andrew Cuomo couldn’t allow his first, tepid recognition of reality — that the Israeli government, with the full support of the Trump administration, is starving the people of Gaza — last more than a few hours without walking it back.
This is someone who believes in nothing.
This survey only takes a few minutes and by filling it out you'll be entered into a raffle to win a cozy AQE hoodie as a thank you! What you share will directly shape what we fight for in Albany this year. Your voice matters and we’re grateful to have you as part of this work.

UFT delegates voted to endorse Mamdani because they believe he is the best candidate in the race to advance our union’s agenda: to protect our premium-free health care, fix Tier 6, pass the “RESPECT check” bill, implement the class size law, revamp mayoral control and more.
