Black-and-white upward view of a dense tree canopy, where thick branches and clusters of leaves form intricate, lace-like silhouettes against a bright, overcast sky.

A black-and-white photo of a moody sky with layered clouds at different heights—thick, shadowy low clouds in the foreground and lighter, more diffuse high clouds above. A small, dim sun shines through a break near the center, partially obscured by the overlapping cloud layers.
I've created a list for Bluesky users who were part of philosophy Twitter back in the day. Help me populate it! Also happy to add people who wish they had been part of the old community. I've added a few names already. (Ask if you'd like to be removed.) bsky.app/profile/did:...
I'd like to challenge everyone who's sharing photos to link to either the individual photo or the gallery page you're getting them from, to assist everyone in finding more pictures for themselves. NASA Johnson's Flickr gallery: www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. [alt text from NASA]
The #Artemis II astronauts said they needed more superlatives to describe their view of the eclipse, when the Sun was behind the Moon and its near surface was faintly illuminated by Earthshine

A black-and-white photograph captures a solar eclipse, showcasing a glowing ring of white light encircling the dark silhouette of the Moon, set against a deep, inky black sky.
"The Universe could not possibly work like that, he thought, cannot possibly. That, he thought to himself, would be as absurd as, as absurd as... he terminated that line of thinking. Most of the absurd things he could think of had already happened."

A black-and-white view from a high altitude showing a bright full moon in clear night sky above a layer of clouds over the ocean. The clouds form a soft, textured blanket below, with a faint horizon where sky meets the cloud-covered sea.

A black-and-white photo of rugged rock formations forming a narrow ravine, viewed from below. Above the jagged rocks, a small crescent moon hangs in a vast, empty sky.

Bright near-full moon in a dark night sky above very dimly lit outdoor stairs, where an equally dimly lit bird perches along one of the steps, apparently level with the moon.
lunar alignment
Black-and-white view from an airliner looking out over the ocean. The water below stretches to the horizon with scattered low clouds above it, while a darker cloud deck sits just above the plane. On the left, a vertical column of cloud rises from the lower cloud layer and connects to the upper cloud deck.
liminal spacetime
Black-and-white view from an airliner over the ocean showing pronounced vertical layers in the sky: a smooth, high cloud layer at top, a middle cloud layer seen edge-on, and a lower layer of scattered clouds above a dark ocean. Columns of clouds or precipitation bridge the middle and lower layers.

New post 🚨 Is philosophy too precious for AI? briandavidearp.substack.com/p/is-philoso... ... on the science-humanities divide in LLM appreciation
🚨 Our Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entry on Computer Simulations in Science is now live. It was a lot of work but I’m proud of this substantial update. I hope it helps those in #philsci interested in the philosophical implications of computational methods.

"...on Daily Nous, AI isn’t just 'new infrastructure'; it’s already a contested symbol tied to authorship, legitimacy, disciplinary self-image, and the fear that the activity philosophers most prize... is being hollowed out."
A relatively close-up photo of the crescent Moon in a dark night sky. The bottom sliver of the Moon is illuminated, and the rest of the Moon's surface is faintly visible through the dark. Rising juuuust off the surface of the Moon on the right side is a bright dot - the planet Mercury!
