Strava track around the Greenwich peninsula.
I cycled around the peninsula at 1am on the London Lockdown, the bit near the tunnel really isn't nice. Also as a driver the separation point between the two tunnels comes very fast and isn't well signposted.
Screen grab of a Mirror article with a photo of Zack Polanski in a suit and white shirt speaking and looking active, with text: Green Party leader Zack Polanski speaking at the launch of the Wales (PA) Green Party plans to reduce the speed limit on Britain's motorways to 55mph One major change under the party's new plans is reducing the speed limit on our motorways from 70mph to just 55mph - a decision that will split opinions between both motorists and non-motorists
The many media outlets calling @greenparty.org.uk transport policy a “war on motorists” should try talking to bereaved families and seriously injured survivors of road crashes rather than ignoring the trauma and pain left when people drive without considering the harm they may cause at the wheel.
Somehow our streets have become taken over by vehicles. We’ve allowed the needs of motor traffic to dictate the experience of everyone getting around or hanging around on our streets.

And children have lost out more than any of us. We can do so much better.

I picked up on research by @cleancitiescampaign.org showing that there's a 56% uptick in cars entering the C Charge zone in the weekday evening peak of 6-7pm (6,170 entries), compared to the morning peak of 8 - 9am (3,955 entries), when the Congestion Charge and car parking controls end.

Greenwich Greens were there! Take good care of yourself, Caroline!
How many divisive tropes can the Spectator cram on their front page?
Zack hasn’t changed our policies. He just talks about them clearly and people are liking what they hear.

But now resolved! The station is much nicer too! More open and less claustrophobic with a higher ceiling.Posters are epic and it's all much more welcoming here! The lift is much better- would love to have same expertise for the foot tunnel lifts! Thanks to TfL and @keolisgroup.bsky.social

A wonderful day out canvassing in Greenwich Park and Charlton and Hornfair! Very positive Green vibes on the doorstep! For real hope, real change, vote Green on 7th May! 💚🍃💚
💯
Helping @escalatenow.bsky.social on that too!
The foot tunnels are critical river crossings and should be a reliable service for all Londoners. Greenwich, Tower Hamlets and Newham have been left shouldering responsibility for lifts (post GLC) - perhaps TfL can help in light of strategic role?
Thank you Caroline.

Three amazing candidates for East Greenwich! They’ve been keeping an eye on pedestrian & cycle routes (or lack of!) near Silvertown tunnel approach roads and say people deserve accessible, safe routes between East Greenwich and the Peninsula. Not this 👇 Vote Green on 7 May!
👏 👏 👏 This win is due to fiercely focussed campaigning by @karinlt.bsky.social and Maureen from @escalatenow.bsky.social and support from @greenwichwire.bsky.social.
It’s been a total pleasure helping this Cutty Sark station access campaign with questions to the Mayor and TfL.
Social media graphic with statement from Caroline Russell AM on Vision Zero Action Plan 2 with pale green background and a strip across the top showing a diverse group of people walking, wheeling, riding a bike and using a walking stick: “Collisions, never ‘accidents’, happen daily. They happen when people make mistakes. Whoever slips up, whether it’s a tired child scooting home or a weary person at the wheel of a car or lorry, the price should not be death or life-changing injury. I’m glad to see the Mayor and his teams understand that to achieve Vision Zero we need to create city streets where no one is harmed when, inevitably, mistakes are made. “Too often there has been a culture on our roads where speeding, distraction and risky driving are treated as acceptable, when in reality they can have devastating consequences. It’s encouraging to see VZAP2 clearly challenge that way of thinking and recognise that changing the culture around driving has to be part of the solution. “I love the new ideas for ‘hospital zones’ and ‘evening streets’ building on the success of School Streets to reduce road risk and improve air quality. I’m pleased to see that side road zebras, reminding drivers to give way to people crossing, will also be piloted.
Social media graphic with statement from Caroline Russell AM on Vision Zero Action Plan 2 with pale green background and a strip across the top showing a diverse group of people walking, wheeling, riding a bike and using a walking stick: “VZAP2 emphasises partnership working between TfL, the Met and the boroughs not only to create safer more inclusive streets, but also to provide support for bereaved families and crash survivors through effective collision investigation along with routine challenge of ‘fatal four’ offences: speeding, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, and using a mobile phone. “The Mayor's VZAP2 Plan has set out clear actions and targets, and what matters most now for Londoners is delivery. I will continue my work on the Assembly to scrutinise his progress closely and ensure that every policy set out is followed through and fully implemented so we can end the trauma of road harm in our city.”
So good that the Mayor’s Vision Zero Action Plan 2 is finally out – with strong recommendations on culture shift and reducing danger.
What matters now is delivery. I’ll keep pushing at City Hall to make sure TfL gets on with urgency making London’s streets safer for everyone. 🧵[1/7]

A fantastic Green social last night at The Tramshed, Woolwich and some great conversations! Thank you to all who came! For real hope, real change, let’s get more Green councillors elected!
Image is a stack of copies of the Bill on a dark wood table. The front page reads: A BILL TO Establish the right to breathe clean air; to require the Secretary of State toachieve and maintain clean air in England; to make provision about environmental targets and minimum standards in relation to clean air; to make provision about the powers, duties and functions of public bodies in England in relation to air pollution; to give the Office for Environmental Protection additional powers and duties related to clean air; to require the Secretary of State to comply with the United Nations Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution; to require the Secretary of State and public authorities to apply specified environmental principles in carrying out their duties under this Act; and for connected purposes.
I am so proud to have introduced this Bill to Parliament last year with cross-party support.
I am determined to see Ella’s Law voted on and passed through Parliament, and I strongly urge the Govt to adopt it in the upcoming King’s Speech.
Whatever it takes, this vital Bill must become law.

The smoggy conditions in London yesterday were primarily caused by a combination of low cloud, mist, and Saharan dust transported on southerly winds. PM2.5 pollution levels in London are lower than in previous years but still remain *above the most current World Health Organization guidelines*.

Reminded myself how totally amazing the Greenwich foot tunnel is this morning. Caught up with @karinlt.bsky.social and @escalatenow.bsky.social campaigners calling for more reliable lifts to support this important river crossing.
