The gay rights movement I was a part of in the 1980s and 90s was not aiming for ‘toleration’.
Mere acceptance was not enough.

Dreamt I stopped at a LBS to buy gloves and everyone was gorping at my bike. I turned around and realised it was the most clownish frankentourer imaginable. It had two saddles, a huge hybrid gel one and a carbon blade with a dropper behind it. Had spds *and* clips. 90s steel MTB frame with aeros.
Currently pivoting to fire-and-forget art. Single units like drawings, objects, animations. Public funded insts. way less interested in this kind of work IME, as less spectacle (more for commercial, but I've never been in that world) however I think I've done enough that I can sell them on it.
I do wish I could be one of those artists who 100% thinks about ideas and let's inst. worry about production, but I couldn't cope with the uncertainty of those ideas needing to change at the last minute.
This sucks, because it limits the work to what you can do on your own / afford to contract. But, I'm trying to remember that in the long run it makes you resilient, and you have total understanding of the whole project.
Slowly realised promised support not coming, and inst. Is running up to the wire on back to back shows. I've redesigned the show multiple times as I've come to understand this. Lesson is, if you've never worked with someone before you have to assume they will do zero.
I know there isn't really a place outside of group chats to talk about this stuff but I've learnt a lot from what has been a particularly tough exhibition to work on for the past year. The biggest lesson has been about institutional support and how to keep working when it's withdrawn.
