@jacimenard.bsky.social is a talented & creative writer!
Now I am thinking about a low-vision MC who can see ultraviolet light, a priest of eclipses, on a planet with 2 moons in a spiral galaxy, with a corrupt planetary priesthood where blindness is holy and retrograde planets have political consequences
That was my instinct. I hate to feel like I'm dumbing things down. But I worry about being too subtle sometimes!
How do you handle feedback that criticizes intentional choices?
e.g. "This part is confusing" but it's confusing because the MC is confused.
Is it possible to make intentions more clear without spoonfeeding? Or just accept that not every reader will get it?

In my published novel, there's a strong oral tradition and the MC is uncomfortable with writing down his people's knowledge for just anyone to read and use.
There is no printing press; the Academy records their magical experiments in journals and re-copies those as needed.
Love this question!!
Do you have an indie speculative fiction novella that was released on or before August 31st of this year? See if it is eligible to be entered into SFINCS! Author submissions will be opening Sept 6th at 4pm EST!

So nostalgic! I could listen to this & the overworld theme from FFVII on repeat for all time.
I had a weird dream about the ruins of an ancient telescope/observatory tower rising out of the ocean, and now I need to research astronomy before I can write a story about it. Just started "Coming of Age in the Milky Way" by Timothy Ferris www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...
