he would also be hesitant to continue the trend of patronymic middle names, if the conversation came up. yes he's done what he can to be a good man but he does not know if he would want to pass his name to their child like that. tbh he'd probably bring up some asian naming conventions - like with

names have power. passing down a familial name ties you to the one who bore the name before you. ilya would believe that too, and not want to invite his mother's depression to his child too early. kid's already coming into a world that is often unkind, he does not need to make it harder for them

I can almost forgive it and not be so annoyed in aus where they dont start the charity, but I truly cannot believe that in a universe where he loses Irina in the same way as canon that he would ever EVER tempt the universe to make his child's life more difficult than it would already be.
