Next adventure starts now. Next stop, LHR 🇬🇧 Let’s hope the weather there is a bit more pleasant.
Perfect.
This shit is so unbelievably deranged. One can only hope that we, as a species, somehow and despite our worst efforts make it to a point sometime in the future when our descendants can look back at us and be aghast at how aggressively stupid we were to let this all happen.
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.
Apologies if this sounds rather basic and/or "partisan," but I really think a minimum requirement for people in positions of political power should be that they possess a sense of decency that is within normal parameters. Don't need saints - just not the kinds of entitled monsters the GOP elevates.
The top comment here is absolute perfection. A typo that not only shows her education, but also accidentally explains his vote.
Pam Bondi’s cult meltdown today was wild to watch. She acted like a wounded animal. Absolutely franntic. I think she can feel the walls closing in.
Not enough people are talking about how badly Lee Brice plagiarized Bo Burnham’s country song at the TPUSA safe space sing-along.
Really, @buzzfeed.com? We’re clickbaiting authoritarianism?
The “Christian” alternative to the halftime show is being headline by Kid Rock, whose lyrics have included “Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage, see. Some say that’s statutory / But I say it’s mandatory.”
They’re playing in your faces.
True art. True humanity. What the struggle is all about.
How did this alt-right Keebler elf get elected?
“Imagine if we had to follow the law”
This is so encouraging. People are not going to set back while their neighbors are kidnapped and their rights stripped.
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.
What the Trumpists are encountering in Minnesota is a community exhibiting exactly the kind of cohesion and solidarity across racial, cultural, and religious lines they claim is impossible.
Nothing could be more terrifying to the blood-and-soil nationalists.
My new piece:
Seattle, I love you.
I'm not an Oscar Award winning director, but if I was, I don't think I'd be bothered by Elon Musk, an avowed white supremacist and wannabe buddy of Jeff E, saying I lost my integrity.
And the ones cheering the dismantling of civil rights progress now, are the same ones that were against civil rights then. They’re not too old to understand, in fact, they’re exactly old enough to know better.
5/5 🧵
They saw first-hand the world before civil rights, before gay rights, and before there were even whispers of police reform.
We need to stop making excuses for the older generation, because it was people of their generation - people of conscience - who fought for the progress we have.
4/5 🧵
They were there when Malcolm and Martin and Medgar were gunned down, and when the police raided the Stonewall Inn. By the time Matthew Shepard was tortured and killed, and the police were acquitted after beating Rodney King nearly to death on TV, they had kids of their own.

“They’re from a different time,” is the go-to defense. But let’s not forget what was happening in that “different time.”
Their generation was in school when segregation was still legal, and when anti-miscegenation laws were still on the books.

A thread, on why need to stop making excuses for regressive elders.
There’s an instinct sometimes to excuse the older generation when they have regressive values. When they casually bemoan DEI programs, guffaw at LGBTQ people in media, or co-sign MAGA politics, the excuses often follow.

"I'm coming to Boston and I'm bringing hell with me."

"Do I expect violence to escalate? Absolutely."

"I actually thought about getting up and throwing that man a beating right there in the middle of the room"

Another witness to Anderson Cooper: “Now is not the time to stay silent. We all need to be a little bit brave, and do what we can to stand up for our rights.”
Seems like a good video for his trial
In the same way that it's almost impossible to find someone in their 70s that was pro-segregation, it will be impossible 50 years from now to find someone who was pro Trump. Because, as Omar El Akkad put it, One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This.
We cannot let the history written about this time make the same mistake, because if, god willing, we make it through this, the quiet onlookers will claim they were always on our side. And they'll claim this confidently, as soon as it's safe - as soon as it's in their favor to claim it.
