The AI Productivity Paradox: Why the AI Multiplier is Less Than 2x
Why a 30x AI coding multiplier results in less than 2x total project speedup, explained via Amdahl's Law.
Wrote some words on the internet to try and capture my feelings.
Anthropic seems to agree with me. Mythos report states researchers report 4x gains but net research progress is significantly less than 2x.

US being unable to force change in Vietnam or Afghanistan is not evidence that regimes can be overthrown. Quite the opposite!

You’re just arguing that regime change against entrenched guerrilla forces is almost impossible. I whole heartedly agree! Inability to force regime change even with great violence is indeed the problem.

It’s not about calculus. I’m a very boring practical concrete programmer. Someone in a country getting bombed is welcome to want me to violently overthrow my government. That just doesn’t happen anymore.
Iranians protested and got slaughtered. Americans protested and got ignored. Tyrants remain.

No. I’m saying that civilian violence to overthrow governments and replace tyrants doesn’t really seem to work! Even government violence to replace tyrants doesn’t really work these days.
Just death and destruction and then the same governments retain control.

Maybe I’m being defeatist and depressed. But I don’t see how any civilian population in any country overthrows a well armed tyrannical government that doesn’t want to leave power.

I imagine that any resisters would be slaughtered and then most people would shelter in place and try to survive. No armed uprising could win or overthrow.
Civilian guns can’t stop modern militaries.

Americans can’t stop their government from bombing Iran anymore than Iranians can stop theirs from slaughtering 7,000+ protestors.
US Democrats will have landslide victories in the fall. Takes 2 or 4 years for Americans to meaningfully influence government. No snap election mechanism. =\

Literally never seen a game roll out constant super high quality content like Fortnite.
But 8 years is a long long long time to keep that treadmill running. And now the math on what a new game needs to generate to fund 1000 people… oof

Maybe Epic should have kept 10 years runway in the back when Fortnite blew up. I dunno.
Instead they grew the company and the game. If they stayed small it’s very possible another game would have taken over. Fortnite doesn’t lend itself to a natural monopoly. Requires CONSTANT content.

I honestly am impressed Valve has had the fortitude to NOT grow the company. Which is what almost everyone else in the world chooses to do.
Upside is more stability! Games like High Guard die and kill the company. Deadlock has been iterated on for how long? Maybe like 6 years? Longer maybe?

Fair. Watched your whole video.
Not a lot you can do when costs exceed revenue.
Epic went all-in on Fortnite and it was wildly successful until it slowed down. BF6 was a top seller but it didn’t retain players. Games industry economics are fucked right now. As I know you know.

but Valve’s implicit Most Favored Nation policy is really really bad. Is it anti-trust levels of illegal? Probably not in our current court system. But it is categorically not good guy behavior in my book. YMMV.

Epic Game Store is admittedly really bad. Their inability to improve it is inexcusable. Just no reason for it to suck like it does. Huge miss.

Man I dunno Chet. Your take here seems really weak.
Layoffs suck. But what’s better, Valve hoarding 30% of the entire PC industry for ~300 FTEs or Epic employing 5000+ people making $300k+ for the past ~8 years?

I *loved* Theme Hospital back in the day.
Briefly tried Two Point Hospital but it bored me to tears and shelving because it was sooo hand holding. Couldn’t get through the tutorial phase I guess.

Lines were worst I’ve ever seen. But imho it wasn’t because of the 30 minute thing. It’s because the bag checkers had absolutely no idea what they were doing and took foreeevvvveeerrr.
