The directors of the firm hired to continue the crossword after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked.

The crossword has been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

If you kill your wife, you don't get to be a husband anymore Some lessons from the media coverage of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer's murders.

My latest.

I’ve been watching the media coverage of the murders of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.

One way media can fight back against male violence:

If you kill your wife, you don’t get to be called a “husband” any more.

You’re her killer.

Mamdani is *barely* taxing the rich. He’s making the city about $500 million more per year from this tiny tax (the city is still like $5 billion in debt) and $38,000 is like a five dollar bill to them and they’re still crying like someone murdered their puppy.

if they're already upset may as well tax them

Photo I took of these wonderful people (the faces of whom I’ve blacked out) singing happy Birthday to their lovely old dog at a bar I was at tonight in Portland

I was at a dog-friendly bar in NW Portland tonight and a table behind me started singing Happy Birthday and then I realized it wasn’t for a person but a really old dog who was wearing a crown and he was old and fucking adorable and I love this city

My federal government job was exciting and important. It was the best job of my life (until my current one). I thought I would stay in the federal government until I retired.

Shot from ground level, a round ceiling mural that echoed Metis embroidery. On a black background, we see a wild rose in tjr centre, surrounded by flowers, berries, birds and butterflies.

I was on the @ualberta.bsky.social campus today for the unveiling of this remarkable art installation by Metis painter Christi Belcourt. It’s called In My Grandmother’s Time, and it blends traditional motifs from Metis beading and embroidery with digital technology. And it’s gorgeous. #ualberta #yeg

Baby had their four month shots and we spent more time than should be necessary talking about measles and figuring out if it would be too dangerous for baby to fly to Oregon before they can get the measles vaccine early, at 6 months. I hate it here.

ICE Arrests 85-Year-Old French Widow Who Married Her G.I. Sweetheart

Not only did the sons probably call ICE on her, the day after her husband died they took their dad's cars, leaving her housebound. Then they rerouted mail, causing her to miss a visa appointment & the utilities to be turned off. Tony and Gary Ross are going to hell.

I've seen people unfamiliar with the Catholic Church get confused when people make distinctions between adult Catholic converts and lifelong Catholics. Here's a perfect object lesson:

A lifelong Catholic would NEVER say this. Never ever never never ever ever never.

I am overwhelmed. One of my dogs nearly died last week - she’s on the mend, but steroids are causing her to pee everywhere and she prefers the carpet and the couch. Baby is going though sleep regression. I have too many critical tasks at work. It’s a lot all at once.1

I love this article and agree and, in fat, buy the bread she thinks is the best very regularly.

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."

Periodic reminder: if you were to break down the Bill of Rights clause-by-clause, more than half of them make it harder to investigate, arrest, prosecute, and punish people for crimes

It is the most profoundly anti-law enforcement document the Government has ever had

And that's a good thing

It’s profoundly ignorant to suggest that the Pope should be fighting crime on behalf of the Catholic Church. Anyone who was remotely familiar with Roman Catholicism would know that that’s what Daredevil is for

I will note: In my experience, it is exceedingly rare for the USCCB to put out a statement this soon after a spontaneous, unplanned thing occurs.

And like

As someone who has spent a LOT of time in both Catholic and Protestant ritual and social space

May I just say

It's such an ecumenical blasphemy, too

When Jesus told the woman at the well that she had had 5 husbands but that he would give her living water, and told the thief he would enter paradise, I told him WRONG, WEAK on crime, loser shit, no wonder the Sanhedrin and the Romans killed him, pathetic, he’ll never defeat death OR the world

When I knew I was going to have this baby, I decided I was not going to share their picture or too much identifying info on the internet and it’s super hard because they are so darn cute and today I took a picture of them in a basket! At a tulip farm!

A major problem we have is that too many powerful and influential people believe (at least subconsciously) that America is somehow magically insulated from decline and collapse. But whatever our Greatness it was achieved through policy choices and can be undone by other choices. It's happening now!

Take a look at the CNN sourcing and fact-checking on their Swalwell article. Look at how many extra people they contacted in order to corroborate claims. They viewed screenshots, called parents/husbands/friends/colleagues. They viewed TV footage and interviews, & more. Two things worth pointing out:
