James Johnson replies to a guy saying 'it's ok James, Trump won, you don't have to try and court favour with Katwala anymore' by saying "he's been delightfully muted for quite some time".

I mean, it's a total mystery to those on the right who worked for the Conservatives, or the right-wing press, how such racism has been allowed to become central to their brand of politics. How has it happened? Totally inexplicable.

Perhaps, just perhaps, appearing on the podcast of people who think Rishi Sunak isn't English - even if it is to disagree - helps to legitimise that sort of racism becoming a mainstream talking point. But then, I guess we can't expect better from a former Spectator editor

(probably quite a piquant view but the Guardian hadn't exactly been letting the Observer thrive over the past decade or so, so maybe it's not the worst thing in the world that a group of people who are actually excited about the paper has now bought it)

Traffic from Bluesky's @bsky.app to @theguardian.com is already 2x that of Threads

In its first week on the platform & with 300k followers, Bluesky traffic from @theguardian.com posts is already higher than it was from TwX in any week in 2024, where the account had 10.8m followers, but🧵

Coote of course denies all allegations - and they may well prove to be total nonsense - saying: 'I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations ... I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability.”

David Coote: FA investigating claims referee discussed giving yellow card The Football Association is investigating allegations that the referee David Coote discussed giving a yellow card before a game

Everything's definitely totally above board with refs and PGMOL and anyone asking questions is definitely a crazed conspiracist blinded by club loyalty

‘Woke’ didn’t lose the US election: the patrician class who hijacked identity politics did | Nesrine Malik Why is this simple explanation being so widely embraced? Because it does not require a commitment to real, structural change, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

'The readiness to repudiate identity politics & group them under “bad woke” is less about policy and more about the fact that social justice never really found a home amongst liberals, who were happy to capture its energy but not its demands.'

The Guardian's Bluesky account has been up for less than a week and has more than 250k followers. More than that headline number though, is the quality of the replies. If it was ever like that on Twitter from the brand account, I don't remember it

There are folks I would gladly give $5/month to support their writing if they weren't on Substack. I don't have the info with me, but I know there are non-fascist alternatives that offer the same services. Money is being left on the table by folks too lazy to change or too oblivious to care.

This is really getting quite remarkable

• BlueSky user numbers have doubled in the past week and now total 3.5 million across US & UK 🚀

• Number of people deleting their X/Twitter account remains way up

And the next chart is particularly notable...

Pokémon Go Players Have Unwittingly Trained AI to Navigate the World Niantic says it is using data generated by Pokémon Go players to create a “Large Geospatial Model” that can navigate the real world and power robots.

In the future (like next year?) we'll all be wondering why we gave away all our data for free, as the oligarchs sit on the billions they made from it. And all we got in a return was some half-arsed AR games in return
