Like that Mane for Wolves. One to keep an eye on in the summer.

Your OP was not understanding the 'in principle' bit.

3 weeks ago 1 0 1 0

That's covered by the 'In principle' part. Forget about 'VAR' and replace with technology. If technology existed that could quickly and efficiently correct infield officiating mistakes then in principle it would be a benefit to the game.

Basically, if there is a way to quickly and efficiently correct egregious on field decisions then that should be a positive addition to the game.

I would like a more nuanced discussion about VAR instead of the binary choices often presented. I am in favour of the principle but the way it is implemented now is shit.

That first season back in the EPL was incredible. From going toe to toe with Liverpool, Raphinha turning into a god, becoming everyone's favourite team to watch... I'll always remember Bamford's hat trick at Villa Park. Loved that kit. We played so well.

We were pretty dominant against Forest. That felt the most like one of our Champo games.

So maybe for at least one of those games we should go for it with 4231 or something or maybe one half of a game if he has confidence the players can handle it.

Ha no it's a tough one. I think he should try keep the opposition on its toes when coming to Elland Road. Look at Chelsea - they were concerned if we were playing the back 3 or back 2. That's a power we don't flex enough...

Thanks for reading! Needed to get it off my chest

Couldn't agree more. Thought the same the other day. Leeds' achilles heal is the panic in the fans filtering through to the players.

4 weeks ago 2 0 1 0

Yes you'd hope that he and the players will be able to find more solutions against weaker opposition. If I abstract myself from being an abused Leeds fan then it is fine... 2-3 wins or one win and a few more draws.

100% - and it's no coincidence (bit chicken or egg) that the teams down at the bottom have had numerous coaching changes during the season. The Spurs, Forest, West Ham players must be spinning.

Yeah pre season is huge for all these reasons. Think that's why Farke's first season got off to a poor start as the team/club was in such flux during a time when others were prepping for live bullets.

Took me a while to get NFQML! Look, there are some crossed wires here - maybe started by me misunderstanding your angle when retweeting my post about counter attacks. Happy to reboot. Have a nice day.

You are arguing about something totally different that I don't disagree with. Yes modern football is often dull. I am trying to explain how teams actually prep for games and install technical principles. Would I like Leeds to play more like Bielsa? Attacking wise 100%. Defending wise 0%.

4 weeks ago 1 0 1 0

So maybe there is some nuance to my statement here... that coaches will stick to their principles, but if there is clear systematic failure then they should obv try to address that.

Bielsa's tactics (specifically the strict M2M marking system) had proven very successful up to his last season, but the EPL figured out how to beat it. Drag people around and create space. We conceded 35 goals in 10 games before he was fired. I think that is a fair sign that your system has failed

Managers succeed not by being "flexible," but by making their "Plan A" so drilled and robust that it can survive the chaos. Stability isn't "stubbornness". In a 38 game season it’s often the only thing that keeps a squad from falling apart. #lufc 7/8

Fans love to treat football like a game of chess, but it’s more like high-speed chaos. So much of the result comes down to chaos factors: a slip, a refereeing whim, or just how one player’s specific mentality matches up against his marker that day. Luck is a huge tactical variable. #lufc 6/8

This is also why subs can feel "late." A manager is often hesitating because they don't want to break the rhythm of the 11 players who actually spent the week drilling the specific instructions for this opponent. One fresh pair of legs in the wrong spot can ruin the whole plan. #lufc 5/8

We saw this with Farke’s shift to the 3-5-2 v City. It looked "sudden" to us, but that was likely weeks of walk-throughs and video sessions finally clicking. A "big tactical adjustment" is a longer burn that usually requires something like an International Break to actually install. #lufc 4/8
