My favorite part of the book is the contrast between the mob’s overindulgent, seemingly invincible grip on Cuba and the quiet, underestimated organizing of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, and the July 26th Movement. It’s shocking to read about how many U.S. politicians, businessmen, corporations, and celebrities (like JFK and Frank Sinatra) openly exploited the Cuban people. In a David versus Goliath moment, the Cuban people rise up and drive the oppressors out in an absolute historic triumph. It's of the people, by the people, and crucial to know this perspective today. Most Americans probably don’t know that before the revolution Cuba was a U.S. puppet state under Batista, an American backed dictator. Forty percent of the population couldn’t read, and Cuba was openly labeled "the brothel of the Western Hemisphere". That’s what the U.S. wants for Cuba again. End the embargo. 🇨🇺

I was at the UCI vs CSUN volleyball game with my family. The athlete in question was literally shouting “suck it b*tch” and “eat it mother f*ckers” after plays. It was entertaining to watch, but definitely over the line. As was the comment from the announcer. I think both sides can learn from this.

Young families can’t afford to live here. Aging population that are holding on to their houses and not moving. Insane housing prices. 🤷‍♂️

The Soviet Union put everything on the line to defeat Nazi Germany, yet my son’s history teacher has the audacity to proclaim that Stalin was “just as bad as Hitler” and dismiss these sacrifices.
