I’m very much a law and order guy, only instead of cracking down on marginalized people, as rightwingers long for, I want crackdowns on the obscenely rich who act with impunity and who spend their time figuring out ways to steal from the rest of us.
Mamdani wants that kind of law and order too.

I have no idea why this event exists. IMO, the purpose of journalism is to interrogate power, not schmooze with it
If Mills had been sitting there with 65%+ approval, if she was truly exceptionally popular, then you could make the case it was justified. But instead Schumer & co. went all-in on a governor in her late 70s who barely cracks 50% approval on a good day.
This is correct for reasons unrelated to Platner, who's simply the undeserving beneficiary. Mills was already one of the least popular Dem governors in the country. She did not have a overperformance history. Her approvals were middling at best. Nothing suggested she was a strong recruitment target.

Trump’s Iran lies boil down to two possibilities:
1. A blatant pump-and-dump scheme to enrich his inner circle.
2. He’s completely lost his grip on reality.
Federal crime or mental collapse — take your pick. Both are a disaster.
It’s hard to express how important Iris was to ACT UP’s scientific development. She was the catalyst who started it all. Iris Long, Scientific Mentor to AIDS Activists, Dies at 92 www.nytimes.com/2026/04/17/h...
Sean Hannity, the Fred Flintstone of shameless propaganda, has declared he will no longer be a Catholic because he worships Donald Trump—and the money it brings in—more.
Sean had to declare publicly that he will no longer be following his faith—because how else would anyone be able to tell?

Honestly mixed results from Man Utd’s new board but the big big big win they will point to is that the players in the squad are mega talented by and large, and they weren’t 2 years ago
That was stressful. Well done on the road. 👹

BIG. THREE. POINTS! ✅🔥

Sure was. Whew!
Headline from The Guardian: Traders placed over $1 billion in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war. What is going on?
Yeah geez weird impossible to know I guess
Trump called every reporter in the observable universe, who all dutifully repeated his updates about Iran, and all those updates have fallen apart in fewer than 36 hours.
How long will legacy media keep doing this?

Bruno Fernandes' assault on the Premier League assist record continues.
18 and counting. Two away from equalling the record.
Bruno on 18 now, yeah HE'S HIM!!!

And another Bruno assist 😎
Oh I missed yesterday that the hyper-religious Christian in charge of the US armed forces disparaged the “Pharisee Press,” that’s… not very subtle
The big upshot here is that you can’t assess the Pope Leo vs. Trump back-and-forth using a solely U.S.-centric political lens.
But you also can’t assume the Vatican doesn’t have a ton of geopolitical/geotheological subtext undergirding all of this as well.
Relatedly: hire more religion reporters.
Fittingly, a white flag that no one can read unless you pull it out and wave it in defeat
Quite a way to frame men importing an abusive power imbalance because current law gives women the choice to not be a sexual possession.
Hey, I think we found the judicial activism.
The Carter admin is a case study in palace politics: Carter came to office in 1977 as a peacenik arms controller, and left office a total hawk with the most ambitious US nuclear war plan ever. Vance was eclipsed by Zbig after 1978 and US policy lurched rightward.
Absolutely. People blame Carter for the misery of 1982, long after Carter was gone. But that's how motivated reasoning works. (Another place Carter and Reagan were basically the same: Letting Volker kill inflation)
The Iranian regime has more credibility than the Trump regime in reporting what’s happening in the war.
I’m not saying this to be unpatriotic.
I’m saying it because it’s obviously true, and Trump’s lies are turning the U.S. into a pariah state.
