My favourite thing about this original legislation during the Sunak era was the lobbying for an opt-out for cigars.

The austerity issue did occur to me but it feels a bit too much of a gradual effect for that to be the explanation. Usually trust in institutions tends to crater.
It might just be as simple as the really pro-monarchy generation (people with memories of World War II) passing away.
I say this as someone who is a Soft Republican in that I find the hereditary principle an anathema but I'd have to really be sold an elected Head of State as part of a much wider effort of constitutional reform (this is what I think a lot of republican campaigners miss).
I do find it quite surprising that there's been effectively no change in attitudes to the monarchy since Elizabeth III died.
I likewise don't quite understand the fairly significant decline (now paused) that took place since the Diamond Jubilee. The Andrew effect? Demographics?
My favourite Japanese bureaucracy thing in recent years was the Diet having to pass a special law to make them exempt from the Gift/Inheritance Tax when Akihito abdicated.

No. I don't think senior members of the National Security Council are leaking information to someone who hasn't worked for the federal government since the mid-1990s. Pretty scuzzy of the Mirror to not even mention any of this.
The source for this is Larry C. Johnson. A man who, amongst other things, spread rumours that Michelle Obama had used anti-white slurs at a 2008 fundraiser and also makes regular appearances on Russian television downplaying the invasion of Ukraine.
The Owen Oyston one gets me every single time.
I do think you need one at the top that's just really normie and even if it was true would be harmless and unimportant, "there really are some escaped big cats on Dartmoor" or something.
Can't remember where I got this from.

I love it when these posts go viral. Just a marvellous way to see people who you otherwise respect showing themselves up as being absolutely mental.
JFK’s head just did that.
Now that The Onion is funny again, time to post the best joke that Clickhole have ever done.

Hey man, we cool? I just noticed that when I look at you the reticle turns red.
I love the US Cabinet. It’s weird that there’s not more academic reports about it because it’s a body that is on paper able to remove the Head of State whilst also being totally pointless.
I love him. It's never ironic. It's never taking the piss. It's always entirely sincere and that's a wonderful thing.
Why the fuck would you take a return flight that only gets you a fifth of the way back home? Sounds like fake news to me.
"Yeah, that's a lovely drop that. Old Sprigget's Clancarty Golliwog. 7.6 percent, so you go a bit careful with that, mate! Incidentally, have you see that 5G mast they're putting up near the Buggered Plowman, just off the A37..."
