Who can tell me about snakes?

We monitor WW for Arenaviruses, because they can be scary.

On several occasions we've detected Reptarenavirus sequences, sometimes a lot of it.

They only seem to infect boa constrictors and pythons.

How's it getting in WW?

I have a solution to drivers complaining that they don't get to park their private property on public land for free anymore: simply remove all of the parking (except accessibility spots) and use that freed-up space to make the beach bigger.

One of the most prominent is a 1.4GW campus in Shackelford County, Texas, being developed for Oracle, which will in turn equip it with chips and provide computing capacity to OpenAI.
The 1,200-acre site is expected to host 10 buildings. Vantage Data Centers, the group constructing the site, in August said the first building was due for delivery in the second half of 2026.
Satellite imagery shows land cleared for six planned facilities, but as of early April only one showed signs of development. SynMax estimates the earliest possible delivery date for the first building is December, while a timetable in line with most comparable projects would push it out to late 2027.

Hyperscaler revenue is also immediately questionable, with Microsoft's deal with Nebius (per its 6k filing) set to default in the event that Nebius cannot provide the capacity it sold out of its unfinished Vineland, New Jersey data center, which is being built by DataOne, a company which has never built an Al data center with a CEO that has his Linkedin location set to "United Arab Emirates" with funding from a concrete firm that is also a vendor on the construction project.
I also believe Microsoft is setting Nebius up to fail.
Based on discussions with sources with direct knowledge of plans for the Vineland, New Jersey data center, Nebius has agreed to timelines that involve having 18,000 NVIDIA B200 and B300
GUs by the end of January for a total of 50MW, with another 18,000 B300s due by the end of May.
On speaking with experts in the field about how viable these plans are, two laughed, and one told me to fuck off.

1.4 Gigawatt Data Center - Shackelford, Texas -
Construction Commenced,
"first building scheduled for delivery in H2 2026" - At best ready to go Mid-to-late
2027
Oracle currently has a 1.4 gigawatt data center planned in Shackelford County, Texas (not far from the sites in Abilene Texas, run, it seems, by Vantage Data Centers. Construction has begun, with the first building "scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026."
It appears the $38 billion in debt behind this site and the other in Wisconsin will be paid by Vantage Data Centers, rather than Oracle. Honestly, this alone confuses me, because Vantage appears to only make $300 million or so a year.

Financial Times saying what I’ve been saying since last year - Oracle’s OpenAI Shackelford Data Center is way behind schedule. so is Nebius’ Vineland NJ data center for its Microsoft contract, and no gear is online.

I kinda do think that the problem with a lot of how we approach art/"content" today is not that theres pulpy junk everywhere, its that the pulpy junk is being made by hyper optimizing corporations and not freaks, perverts and weirdos.

Getting off US tech: a guide I’m in the process of dropping US tech services. Here’s how I did it, and options you should consider.

Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

Mark Carney wants the fantasy of AI to be reality, despite the evidence it’s not coming, but ignores how AI creates an antisocial world where more people suffer mental health challenges, do not think critically, are addicted to screens, have their work degraded, and can’t tell fact from fiction.

The Unknown Worlds / Krafton story is a gift that keeps on giving. Looks like Krafton is out of the Subnautica picture entirely.

I have thoughts about what this extrication deal might be (waive the earnout, dismiss any countersuits, Krafton doesn’t get a dime)… and if so, a good deal for Krafton.
