Honestly? Mad Max: Fury Road. That was a DNA-altering experience.

Happy National Library Week! This week you should:
1) Donate $ to your local Friends of the Library

2) Write to your public library director to thank them for standing up for diversity or to condemn them for caving to fascists

3) Plan a similar public comment for the next library board mtg

THIS is what's wrong with Discovery. Four seasons in, I have no idea what instrument Michael plays.

Kingdom of Silver/Keepsake - Finding out that this is a tie-in to a larger Cybermen series made a lot of sense; it felt a bit like watching the middle episode of a TV series. Couldn't connect to the characters or the political plot at all--extra unfortunate in a solo Seven story.

Overall, not as bad as I feared, but not as great as I hoped. Doesn't have the narrative momentum of the Netflix show, and none of the new characters are as interesting as the ones who've been killed off/written out. Maybe Season 2 will be better...

Things I don't like:
-[Spoiler] HATE Foggy's death; after all the fan outcry against writing him out, too 😡
-Don't like Muse being just a regular serial killer
-Disney still won't go full ACAB, though at least they dissed Punisher cops
-Season seemed to end before the climax; underwhelming

Daredevil: Born Again S1
Things I like:
-Charlie Cox still kills it as DD, love that man
-They didn't tone down his Catholicism like I worried
-More realistic swearing (it always seemed so goofy the Netflix series wouldn't use the f-word)
-Distorting the camera to show where DD's focus is = cool

Seems like Vance would be embarrassing himself a lot less right now if someone had just told him about the ACNA.

Slightly better accents this time around, though, I'll give them that.

One thing that hasn't changed on Disney Daredevil is their depiction of the Irish Mob, which continues to be charmingly quaint and ridiculous.

Wrote about Faces of Death (2026), a very fun slasher movie that tries to also make A Point about the evils of social media.

Finally catching up on Disney Daredevil, and so far my second biggest complaint (after the Big One, which I Do Not Forgive) is that Matt is way too balanced and mature. He'd better be a hot mess again by the end of the season...

Actually, I've never thought about it before today, seeing this question, but an all-android Star Trek crew would rule in any context. Maybe throw a hologram in there.

"If you were in charge of Star Trek what would you do?"

Horror miniseries about an all-android crew investigating a derelict space station that's sending out distress signals. Turns out the signals are from the last all-android crew, who have been...altered by something imperceptible to organics.

Archer is only underrated in the sense that he rates a spot SIX FEET UNDER THE GROUND.

The Doomwood Curse - Charley's love of Gothic romance sends her and Six back to the Land of Fiction! (Kind of.) Very silly and light, despite some unfortunate slur usage. India Fisher is having the time of her life as an outlaw. I think Charley needs a villain arc.

Had a bit of an epiphany on my latest rewatch: when Judas sings "Does He love me too?"...the Christian response has to be "yes," right? If Christ died for the world, He died for Judas. I think Christians who call it blasphemous might just really not wanna think about those implications.

#7 - Wake Up Dead Man
Finishing with a new favourite. Best film version of the "sacred whodunit." Perfect balance of wit and sincerity. Father Jud is exactly the kind of Christian I want to be (and flawed enough to make that seem possible).

Was going to attend Easter Vigil tonight, but I think The Public has already given me a close enough experience to the Harrowing of Hell for one day.

#6 - Jesus Christ Superstar
Insane 70s hippie energy aside, I think it's a genuinely profound look at how people use and abuse icons, religious or otherwise. Where's the line between faith and celebrity worship? Carl Anderson is the real star. Every song slaps.

"I don't know how to love Him..."

This Holy Week movie marathon has reminded me I don't know any movies that explore faith from an explicitly Anglican/Episcopal lens. Which is a shame, because it offers the best of both worlds: you get the aesthetic of Catholicism *and* all the political mess of Evangelicalism.
Hollywood, hire me!

#5 - Silence
Tough watch, but maybe my favourite Scorsese, definitely my favourite Garfield. Colonialism, fetishised martyrdom, syncretic devotion...so many tests of faith on display here. I should read the book.

"It was in the silence that I first heard Your voice."

#4 - Overlap with Passover means it's gotta be The Prince of Egypt. The movie that ruined Biblical epics for me by being too beautiful. If your Bible movie doesn't go as hard as The Plagues sequence in this, why even bother?

"Take the staff in your hand, Moses. With it, you will do My wonders."

#3 - The Testament of Ann Lee
More Amanda Seyfried! She's mesmerising in this. Love the manifestations of the desire for God at the most primordial level. Joining an anti-sex cult is the only way I'd survive the 18th century.
