The message of the Right reacting to Virginia is the same as the message of "2020 was rigged": no victory by anyone but us is ever legitimate. We are the only ones allowed to win.

These people are cartoon villains entitled to no respect and no trust. Rabid dogs.

Decision Desk has called it. Fairfax and Loudon are coming in to tip the results decisively.

It’s just that the small red counties report quickly and the huge blue counties report later because they have so many more votes to count. It creates a red mirage.

Proud to have cast my vote in Virginia today to pass this redistricting.

And anytime I hear “Prometheus” I always mentally say “Unbound” and I think I might find others like me and they are also likely on BlueSky.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think Jeffrey Epstein's clients should be the ones to decide if Jeffrey Epstein's clients should be prosecuted.

Imagine if Hegseth read a book about the great influenza of 1918 and realized how much outbreaks in army barracks contributed to the spread and devastation. But he doesn’t read.

I see two schools of thought among Dems.

1. We need a new deal. Make things fair. Everyone prospers.
2. Put them motherfuckers against the wall.

I think they are compatible.

It seems that in all areas, across the board, this administration is disdainful of true expertise. They really hold fast to the belief that “anyone can do this” not realizing that every day they disprove that notion.

This is the simple and profound truth. What is more enjoyable than seeding a classroom conversation where the students take over to share their insights and argue their points?

👆This! I doubt anything has murdered the joy of reading as much as teaching to the tests requiring reading a short passage and answering a few multiple choice questions.

As is often the case with someone who was a very bright child who then gained access to an excellent education, he continues to think of himself as more intelligent than most. He didn’t recognize his own plateau.

Wild that he didn’t realize the Pope was once the head of the Augustinian order and it was Augustine who wrote the just war theory.

Yes. RCIA is a very structured course of study. It is not only specific in terms of reading and discussion of topics, it is deliberately spaced across a timeline of at least a year. It is designed to be challenging and rigorous to avoid the very pitfalls of people who attempt to fast track.

I really loved Strunk and White but i am old. I would challenge my students to use interesting verbs thus avoiding cluttered sentences. Shift F7 will never match the power of a printed thesaurus. There is no such thing as a perfect first draft.

I have a pretty solid foundation in Catholic teaching. I have wrestled with it throughout my life like Jacob in the river. A skeptic at best, I’m enjoying these pompous amateurs take on this deeply thoughtful pontiff. Cherry picked bible verses cannot stand up to carefully considered theology.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

Well they clearly weren’t reaching young adults in the empty pews of the church. I admired the go-out-and-meet-them-where-they-live approach. I’ve often wondered if it had any appreciable impact.

And he was “Christian” his whole life. The Bible belongs to everyone. The Catechism is another whole story. Catholicism can be quite the challenge if you decide to do a deep dive.

There was a similar outreach program in my old neighborhood called “theology on tap” where young people met at a bar and asked questions of a priest. It wasn’t run by a particular order.

Thank you for reminding me. One rarely expects it during the white knuckle ride that is Interstate 95, particularly between NYC and DC.

Thank you. I’m grateful that he got to see all the grandchildren this weekend. We have 6 and they range from 1 to 9 years old. This may have been the last visit for them. I also pray that the suffering is limited and that he may pass peacefully. 🙏

Somewhere in Delaware along 95 my son and his wife and two small daughters had breakfast in a diner. They’re heading home from a heartbreaking visit with his dying father. A gentleman who left before them paid for their meal. I wish I could thank him for that kindness at the end of a crushing trip.
