I really enjoyed this episode, @add-hawk.bsky.social your work dovetails well, I think, with Waheed Hussain's analysis and critique of capitalism in his Unfinished manuscript *Living with the Invisible Hand* .

Never thought that writing the introduction to your PhD dissertation would be the most fun part. It allows you to go back to the intuitions that are ultimately behind the project. It is only at the end by going through convoluted discussions that you are able to articulate these intuitions clearly.
Just learned today that Belgium had a socialist republican party!

And to be clear: yes Assad is a brutal dictator and it is good that he is gone.
Sure but HTS is what it is, they are an islamists group, they have a particular ideology. That is not 'orientalism', that is a fact. No point in sugar coating or denying that. Let's hope that they have really changed, but there is nothing orientalist to be sceptical about that.
Good riddance to Assad indeed! But what is going to happen next? HTS is an islamist organisation. The Turks seem to have their agenda for Syria as well. What is going to happen to the Kurds in Syria now? I'm not sure this will be the new chapter Syria is waiting for. Let's hope it is though!

I keep asking the older fellows of Kings who influenced this or that of Williams’s ideas and their answer is always no one. He only ever was counter-influenced (by his teacher RM Hare for example). This new book puts Alasdair MacIntyre is a major inspiration, good to know. #philsky #ethics
