Somewhere at some point in history, a person looked at an octopus and said "I'm gunna fuckin eat that".

And that is why you cannot trust people for a second.

We used to do office computer backups on Zip drives. A few years ago, my intern and I were cleaning out old boxes. He held up a Zip disk from the box and said, incredulously, “Why would you 3-D print the save icon??” I laughed so hard I almost choked. 😂

There's always at least a 30% chance of finding out that your favorite science fun fact is something first discovered by Dr. Otto Von Racism during an attempt to make children more flammable.

SPACE FACTS: DAY 47/365🛰️🧪

There is a rare type of galaxy called a ring galaxy, which has a core of old stars surrounded by a ring of young new stars. The most quintessential example of this is Hoag's Object, discovered in 1950.

Agreed. And neither does Oppenheimer himself. But to the “I loved Top Gun” crowd, he won the war and allowed for the boys to return home safe

I love the idea that, if conservatives go to see Oppenheimer to “fight the woke Barbie mania”, they will discover that it’s a movie about an American hero, a true patriot, that was unfairly treated by a right-wing government because of his socialist opinions

I think it may have been a bad idea to make the work machine and the procrastination machine the same machine.

One day, scientists from the city hear that the villagers are cured from all sorts of diseases by eating the mushrooms Grongus grows. They try to convince him to come work in their research facility, wear a very big lab coat, bring his emotional support turtle, … at least 3 seasons and a movie in it

Lately, I’ve been receiving spam that’s not caught by gmail filters almost daily. It seems that spammers have stepped up their game. Maybe they integrated ChatGPT for personalized messages ? Now gmail filters will have to rate e-mails on relevance. Some of my colleagues will not make the cut.

I can imagine the kind of free speech abuse you’re trying to prevent, and I agree that the Spiderman rule applies : Responsibility= f(Power), but you can’t solve it by banning people for who they are. You can only ban people for what they do. Have rules and ban those who don’t respect the rules

Have a look at what she’s been posting. I wouldn’t qualify it as a “political account”, rather the personal account of a person who happens to have a job in politics

Indiana Jones was fun, not as good as Last Crusade but equally entertaining and with a similar vibe

The blog mentions that “there was an associated sound too”
Was that a sort of jingle or the official way of pronouncing the symbol ?
