Can You Help Out with the Stop and Shop Food Drive on April 25? Each year, Feeding Westchester partners with Telemundo and Stop&Shop to conduct a county wide Food Drive to benefit local food pantries. We once again have the opportunity for our pantry to receive donations from this drive if we can provide enough volunteers to staff the event. Can you help on Saturday April 25 for a 2-hour shift at the Stop & Shop (Baldwin Place & Route 6) or to drive a truck or SUV load of donations back to the church (we’ll need donations picked up throughout the day). Our experience with this drive is that our neighbors have been very generous and we receive lots of items for our pantry that are not available through Feeding Westchester. This is a great opportunity for families to spend a couple of hours together giving back to the community. All of the donations from this location will benefit our food pantry if we can staff the event. Please reach out to Debbie Bernardini with any questions. Sign up

Rendezvous with Treason April 17 Yorktown Celebrates a Dramatic Presentation: Rendezvous with Treason: The Andre/Arnold Conspiracy In conjunction with America’s 250 Independence Anniversary At First Presbyterian Church, April 17, 7:30pm – Admission is Free On Friday, April 17, at 7:30pm, Yorktown’s historic First Presbyterian Church will be the site of Rendezvous with Treason — a dramatic portrayal of the fateful encounter between two of the American Revolution’s most intriguing characters. The production depicts the 1780 meeting in Haverstraw of American General Benedict Arnold and British Major John Andre and the treasonous plot to deliver West Point to the British and is the among many activities to remember local events associated with the American Revolution and our nation’s 250th independence anniversary. The Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route – New York, Incorporation organization in conjunction with the Yorktown Heritage Preservation Commission / Yorktown 250 are hosting the event. Admission is free. Rendezvous with Treason was created by teachers Gary Petagine (Carmel High School) and Sean Grady (Ardsley Middle School).  The two men, who met through living history reenactments with the Fifth New York Regiment, spent several years developing the interactive program based upon careful research. The production allows Arnold and Andre an opportunity to tell their respective sides of the story and the motivation behind a plot that could easily have crushed the American cause for independence and effectively ended the American Revolution. Arnold and Andre share their triumphs and setbacks as we follow their rise to success in their respective armies. Arnold was, in fact, a Revolutionary War hero and a trusted confidant of George Washington who became disgruntled after being passed over for promotions. Major John Andre was, by all accounts, a kind and charming man, a great favorite in colonial society, and a reluctant spy. Grady (who portrays Andre) and Petagine (Arnold) are the actors, writers and living historians who bring these characters to life. Dressed in authentic period attire throughout the performance, they will be available after the play for questions and discussion. The First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown is located at 2880 Crompond Road. To park for the event, enter the paved parking lot off of Route 132. The Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route – New York, Incorporated and the Yorktown Heritage Preservation Commission / Yorktown 250 organizations wish to thank the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown for generously granting the use of their space for this presentation.

Item of the Month for April: Canned Chicken or Tuna This month we are again asking for canned tuna or chicken– high in protein and so versatile. Please help if you can! The 5oz cans are best for simplicity in distribution. When we suggest an “item of the month,” it’s not just some suggestion from a rotating calendar, it’s actually something that has not been easily available from Feeding Westchester. As you know, we now have a Full Choice model at the Food Pantry, where our clients can choose items that best fulfill the needs of their household. We buy food in bulk from Feeding Westchester, but not all the items we’d like to offer are always available. Noting the item of the month and bringing in some supplies can help the pantry offer as wide a variety of foods as possible. There are donation bins behind the Christian Education building. Of course all non-perishable items are welcome. If you would like to make a food donation, please note: * Non-Perishable FOOD Only * NO Food with expired dates on the packages. * Donate the quality of food you would serve to your own family. * Online contributions to the Food Pantry are also most welcome. You can find more information, including our distribution schedule on our Food Pantry Page. Thank you!

Easter Offering to Support Faithful America 100% of this year’s Easter Offering will support Faithful America, a Christian organization whose motto is “Love They Neighbor. No Exceptions.” Faithful America is dedicated to reclaiming the Christian narrative from the religious right and white Christian nationalism, which they argue distorts the Gospel to promote hate and fear. They put faith into action for love, social justice and equality, especially on issues of racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, climate action, and democracy. Through a combination of rapid-response digital campaigns, petitions, and community organizing, Faithful America responds nimbly to political actions and statements that violate Christ’s teachings. Visit faithfulamerica.org to see the wealth of ideas they offer for how we can advocate for policies that put “Love They Neighbor” into action. This offering will be collected from Easter Sunday to May 17.

Bon Voyage Party for our Organ April 12 Our beautiful pipe organ has lovingly served our congregation for 35 years and is in need of restoration and improvement. The repair and upgrade is among the most meaningful and most joyful investments this campaign will make. Restored to its full voice, the organ will anchor Sunday worship, fill the sanctuary during recitals and concerts, welcome students from first lesson to professional performance, and stand as a living symbol of this congregation’s commitment to musical excellence — for generations to come. After Easter, the organ will be disassembled and will travel to Connecticut for restoration by the original builders, Austin Organs. It will return just in time for Christmas! Join us for a Bon Voyage Party following the 10:30am service on April 12. There will be cake!

Concert April 18: With a Little Help From our Friends With A Little Help From Our Friends — A Concert in Service of Love Unbound and The Agape Music Center Some of the most important people in our lives found us through music — through an album we both loved, a festival or concert where we found each other, a moment onstage we’ll never forget. With a Little Help From Our Friends is an evening built around that kind of connection. On Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 PM, members of our Music Ministry Team have invited a cast of friends of all walks of life and musical ilk to share the stories of how they found each other, and the music they love. This is a fundraising concert, yes, but it’s also something rarer: an act of witness to what music does when it’s at its best. Come. Bring a friend (or 12) and enjoy a night of music and love unbound. There is no entrance fee; donate what you wish.

Retake/Remake: What is it and why do we care? You may have seen the donation box in the Gathering Space and wondered what Retake/Remake is, and what would happen to your donations. Retake/Remake describes itself as “A place to donate, buy and be inspired by arts and crafts materials, office supplies, surplus and other cool stuff collected for Creative Reuse.” And boy did we collect some cool stuff! Lynda Spring, a member of our Green Team, formed the connection between FPCY and Retake/Remake. At the end of February, Lynda dropped off a carload of donated art supplies. The result? Fifty-one pounds of art supplies were kept out of the landfill and are on their way to be reused. Your Green Team is thankful for the donations from the congregation and for Lynda for leading this effort. Let’s keep filling up those bins!

Forty Cans(+) For Lent 40 Cans for Lent is a tangible spiritual discipline, and one that directly contributes to the FPCY Food Pantry’s ability to help an ever increasing number of hungry neighbors.  We welcome cans of fruit, vegetables, tuna, and beans, along with pasta, breakfast cereal, or shelf-stable milk.  Please do NOT donate soup or stews, as they provide less nutrition than other options, and our storage capacity is at a premium. You can drop off items any time in the labeled bins near the red double doors at the back of the church building. If you would like to make a food donation, Please Note: ¨ Non-Perishable FOOD Only ¨ NO Food with expired dates on the packages. ¨ Donate the quality of food you would serve to your own family.
