im used to it because we never had any savings growing up either. paycheck to paycheck and relatively comfortable is a reality for a lot of people. Many of us are doing okay and are well aware that we are one act of god or major medical emergency away from having nothing.

listen, I'm doing better than most people. I get by. I'm also in massive amounts of debt from using credit cards to get by when I had a lot less income. my wife works her ass off hustling part time jobs and we have no savings. this is "better than most people." I'm grateful but it's not ideal

"median household income adjusted for inflation" without an accompanying metric of how much of their income people are spending on necessities or, bonus question, how much income a household can lose before risking losing housing or other necessities, is just "number bigger I'm very intelligent"

I also spent most of my time until my late 20s dealing with crippling anxiety that made it difficult to imagine beyond the next couple days and what was immediately in front of me.
