Shane Jones is spouting some of the most vile racism I have heard in #nzpol and it's barely being reported on. Left bloc MPs have lost careers for far less.
NZ media has this strange presumption of evil that ultimately empowers our worst politicians.
Here it is, my annual reminder: don't spray spring dandelions with roundup.
One flower can be visited by 100+ bees in a day, and your chemicals will kill all of them. 🌻
Over the past ten years NZ has averaged 55.9 days annually under a State of Emergency each year, and 66.6 days over the last five. In the 10 years prior to this, NZ averaged only 13.4 days per year.
Consider the implications of central government continuing to refuse to believe in climate change.
Ōamaru Penguins, which manages both the town’s popular visitor colony in Ōamaru and a separate non‑visitor control site, says the result is a significant conservation milestone and a testament to decades of sustained effort.

Amamelia has released her new album The Joy Of Living!
“I’m really proud of this album. I think it's weird, messy, overwhelming and all over the place. I don't know if I could make an album like this again but I'm glad I made it this time.” @amamelia.bsky.social

Thanks for this. Looking forward to getting riled up shortly.
Don't need to go to Coachella. I can just blast different songs simultaneously from every room in my house and pretend I have no bathrooms.

I don’t usually share the little apps I make for myself but I’m really pleased with this one…

screenshot of google doc that says the following: Trans Metal Comp; Hi!! We're putting together a compilation album comprised of metal tracks composed by trans musicians and are currently seeking submissions! The album will be released on Bandcamp on June 26th and all sales will go directly towards individual trans folks' fundraising campaigns. We had initially planned on donating to an organization, but the fact of the matter is that right now, trans people need money, and the best way to help is by giving directly. We will be as transparent as possible with where the money goes and boost who we can. If that sounds good to you, read the guidelines below and come headbang along with us! \m/ ALL subgenres of metal permitted. Power metal, deathcore, crossover thrash; as long as it's some flavor of metal or has clear metal crossover influence to it, we'll likely accept it. Whether or not specific submissions are accepted is at the sole discretion of the organizers. If we end up not using your work for any reason, don't feel discouraged! It likely just didn't fit the vibe we're going for. NO tracks made with or containing anything regurgitated by "generative" AI NO Nazi shit. If you're trans and also a Nazi for some fuckass reason, look elsewhere. And get your damn life together. NO cis-led solo acts. If your band or project has cis people involved, that's fine!! As long as at least one member is trans and plays an active role in the performance and/or songwriting, feel free to submit. Up to TWO tracks per artist; up to two songs under the same name will be accepted. If you have or are involved with multiple projects, as long as they're distinct from each other and under different names, feel free to submit up to two tracks for each. You must own the rights to the music you submit; any tracks submitted must be owned by you or with the permission of whoever does, and you must personally be involved in the track in either its composition, performance on the recording, or…
are you:
trans?
a metal musician?
want to contribute to a compilation album that will raise money directly for trans people in need?
then what the fuck are you waiting for?? get in the pit!!

What are his best records?
It says a lot about the state of humanity that we didn't all dress up in ape costumes for the return of Artemis II.

An annoying Facebook post that reads: Today in New Zealand, 30 March, 2004, history Michael King was silenced by a fatal car crash at the age of 58. He was the author of 'The Penguin History of New Zealand' which was the most popular book of the year. Here he is being interviewed about that book as it launched. King made the point that the fashion trend of referring to our country's name as "Aotearoa" was a State imposition. He pushed back against it. Ironically, the title of his own book has now succumbed to the very same pressure!
My response: Rachael King Michael King did not "push back" against the use of Aotearoa, in fact used it liberally himself. Just because he lays out his understanding of the origins of the name, doesn't mean he thought it was not a legitimate name to adopt. Language evolves, and if this one word 'Aotearoa' gives us a Mãori equivalent of New Zealand to use alongside it, why is that a problem? He didn't think it was. Why should you use his words out of context to make a point that he didn't believe himself?
So frickin sick of these people taking our father’s words out of context for their own ends.

Massacre upon massacre in Beirut in the last hour. AUBMC announced a “code disaster.” Over 100 airstrikes in 10 minutes across the country. One hit right behind my house. Sirens ambulances & the smell of sulphur. The city is in total chaos the people in complete panic
I cannot keep track with how many notifications I'm getting from all over Beirut and south Lebanon right now of the places that Israel is obliterating. There are multiple reports of multiple massacres in the past hour alone.
Excellent story
Love those bins!
The first images from Artemis II reveal what the moon looks like just 7,000 km from the surface—and confirm that NASA is ready to return to Earth’s satellite.
But… how will we pay for it? (🧵 with words).
This phrase is used to obfuscate, deflect and generally suppress progressive policy.
Why don’t dentists help the thousands of people suffering with tooth ache? Why is shit pouring into the harbour when it rains? Why are people sleeping in tents... [1/n]
