I don’t even understand what there is “to learn.” How does prompt writing play a bigger role than understanding the fundamentals of the job you’re doing? A trained chimpanzee could “learn” generative AI.

I’m all for proper funding and not relying on the handouts of celebrity or the 1%, but the reality is that this would not be a priority for many (especially given the comments I’m seeing). And unfortunately, a lot of art preservation exists because rich people took an interest.

I understand that the optics of the Met Gala aren’t great. However, the only reason we’re here is that the Costume Institute doesn’t get funding. This was a solution.

Given that a lot of textile art is created by working class women, we shouldn’t be dismissive of things that human hands created.

Think what you want about the Met Gala, but maybe we should actually fund the preservation of textile arts so the necessity of celebrity and 1% is unneeded to do that 🤷‍♀️
