New work with @zenamello.bsky.social -- using the person-centered approach, we found that social class discrimination, particularly discrimination that occurs in school negatively relates to academic outcomes. Classism from teachers was most common onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

Excited to share a new paper by my grad student and myself, highlighting how classroom experiences such as positive classroom climate relate to changes in STEM motivational beliefs across the semester 🤸♀️🎉https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1m8Px,8E16MF-A
New report in Education Week profiles IDS affiliate @christinerstarr.bsky.social's work that looks to better understand how to motivate students in STEM whose parents didn't attend college.

Abstract for new PNAS article
It’s a tough time for STEM education research right now, but we are still excited to share our new PNAS paper, “Divergence in children’s gender stereotypes and motivation across STEM fields”! We have big surveys (2,765 students in Grades 1-12), 2 pre-registered studies, and open data. (1/13)
Ugh I'm sorry Allison 😔 The situation sucks so much right now. You are such an inspiring researcher and professor! We read several of your papers in my classes and they're always a hit ☺️
Looks like NSF-BPE has been canceled. My institution was literally supposed to submit my and Dr. Alan Meca's grant to it today... 🫠
🧪 Brand new details on DOGE’s infiltration at NSF
““The Office of Management and Budget recently instructed some NSF staff that all funding opportunities needed approval from DOGE, OMB, or the Office of the Director, a document viewed by FedScoop indicated.”

Dear Dr. Salles, I am writing to let you know that due to changes in NIH/HHS priorities, the Research on Interventions that Promote the Careers of Individuals in the Biomedical Research Enterprise (R01) program has been terminated. Your institution can continue to draw funds on any active award for allowed costs that are within scope and consistent with the Grants Policy Statement. Further awards will not be made, and NIGMS will not permit no-cost extensions. NIGMS grants management will follow up if there is any specific information or action needed regarding your award. For additional information regarding funding opportunities that NIGMS supports, see NIGMS TWD Webpage: https://www.nigms.nih.gov/. training/Pages/TWDPrograms. If you have specific follow up questions, please email nigmstrainingmail@nigms.nih.gov and include the grant number.
It was just a matter of time. My R01, a grant dedicated to addressing sexual harassment in biomedical research (which affects over 50% of women and sexual and gender minorities), is being terminated.
I guess I should be grateful this letter doesn’t have the offensive language in other terminations.

Hi, BlueSky. It's Hillary.
I've joined up here to help get the word out about an important election in Wisconsin tomorrow, and other ways to defend our democracy against those who think votes can be bought.

Substantial updates to the list of cancelled grants👇

- It's still a work in progress. You'll see more updates shortly.
- There are multiple teams & efforts engaged in tracking & advocacy. More to come soon!
Universities: We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately
This makes me so sad... I've been using one of these datasets for the past 5 years. They're so important for education research.
I have to say: Chuck Schumer is a weak man and a fool. This was the one cudgel Dems had. Now it's up to the courts which we new from the beginning were at best going to slow some things down. There's 18 hours left to somehow bring additional pressure to bear. It will be really hard to do that.
As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:
“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

🧪The entire staff of the Department of Education’s NCES-a vital independent statistical agency - has just been RIFed. The continued erasure of data and evidence allows for the Trump administration to hide the impact of their corruption.

Just talked with CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) about my NSF EDU-funded study on early stereotypes in STEM.
With my @airinforms.bsky.social colleagues, the results show the importance of *sustained* and *evidence-based* funded efforts to expand opportunities for girls in tech at early ages.
Aww thank you Allison!! ❤️🤗
Thanks Allison, I needed that too. It's been rough out here for us DEI researchers 😭
I encourage everyone to go through to see the grants that have been categorized as "woke DEI." It's disgusting. www.commerce.senate.gov/2025/2/cruz-...

This TICS paper turned out to be unexpectedly timely... We could have called it "Why DEI and Merit Go Hand in Hand" given recent developments... Valuing diversity and excellence/merit aren't opposing forces -- they're complementary.
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! It is more necessary than ever to emphasize the importance of increasing gender equity in STEM. Here's a throw-back to last year's conversation with Dr. Lisa Harvey-Smith, Australia's Women in STEM Ambassador: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXjG...
Extremely disappointed to see HHMI decide to kill their Inclusive Excellence program, including terminating the current IE3 awards to over a hundred institutions effective this year in the middle of a 6-year grant. I was hoping HHMI (and other private funders) would continue to lead the way.
