Clear winter atmosphere, busy orbit.
Intrigued by a long-standing conundrum in small RNA biology—how nuclear Argonaute proteins silence transposons when they *need* target transcription for their own recruitment—we studied the piRNA pathway.
And found a hidden RNA-decay axis from Piwi to the RNA exosome.

Thrilled to share that I’ll be joining @imbmainz.bsky.social in February 2026 to start my own group!
We will explore new mechanisms in eukaryotic gene expression, leveraging ‘evolutionary play’ to uncover how regulation, repurposing, and hijacking shape RNA biology.

“Many” Ukrainian civilians killed in a Russian ballistic missile strike on Sumy as residents were heading to church for Palm Sunday services, local officials say. One of the missiles apparently hit a trolley bus.
In other news, Witkoff’s sightseeing in St Petersburg seems to have gone great.
A world paralyzed by indifference, watching in silence as Russia slaughters civilians in Ukraine—year after year.

It’s now undeniably clear that Trump is attempting to blackmail Ukraine into making concessions to the aggressor. This is a critical moment for democracies —either they unite against rising autocracies, or risk a future shaped by authoritarian power and aggression

And it is downright foolish to think that the Vietnamese could ever have defeated the USA or the Afghans have defeated the USSR!
We live in an age where policy makers wear their ignorance proudly.

Latest piece out in @theatlantic.com . Europe better realize soon that Russia is fighting a “war” and it involves them.
