Very pleased to report HSRAANZ met with NHMRC leadership last Thursday to discuss critical HSR funding concerns. They acknowledged our concerns, committed to review processes, provide data and meet again in June. Encouraging start but structural reforms still urgently needed

#HSR24 closes with a panel of funders and policy makers chaired by @aliepea.bsky.social - still many cautions and considerations for HSR in the digital age, but also so many opportunities… many of which have been highlighted by the fantastic presentations over the last three days!

Speaker next to a projected slide

The Pitfalls
Funding issues potentially problematic
Value based care not incentivised
Fall between State and Commonwealth responsibilities
Opportunity cost in developing models
Sufficient volume is required
Benefits may not occur within a year - capacity increasing
Possibility of choosing options that do not benefit society the most
A greater emphasis on the value of freed up resources is required - what do they mean?
Did not appear to support a reduction in expenditure but rather an increase in capacity
There are choices to be made - what are the "best" things to be doing?
