The siren's call of a completely new project is drawing me away from querying and plotting out another idea...
One more thing to juggle can't be so bad...

But surely, if I stare at my laptop for long enough, the words will simply appear?

Oh will there be a 4th as well?? I thought it was just going to be a trilogy
A picture of the book 'The Will of the Many' by James Islington
So, I recently finished The Will of the Many by James Islington - easy 5 stars for me! Favourite book of 2026 so far.
To keep a long review short... incredible world building, well crafted plot, and victories that feel satisfying and earned.
Highly recommend!

Naming a novel is lowkey harder than naming a child, because at least when I named my kids, I wasn’t consumed with the problem of how to make them sound marketable 🫠
A close up shot of bluebells in a woodland.
Bluebells were out in full force today! Always nice to get out (despite the eventual hail)
Fun fact: UK native bluebells only spread an average of 4cm per year, which is why they're oft limited to ancient woodlands, and outcompeted by their Spanish counterparts
Next three reads from my TBR!
Been looking forward to Spinning Silver and There is no Antimemetics Division for a while now. The Bladed Faith is a more recent addition but looks right up my street

“Is that story really science fiction when it’s about stuff happening right now?”
“Well, it’s set in outer space.”
Current status.
Did you find any parts of it useful or was it all just not worth? Some search functions seem minority useful but wasn't sure about the rest
It was a bad night for writing but I at least got one more query out.
Maybe if I just keep swapping between writing and querying to procrastination it'll work out?...
Good to know - already skipped it!!! I just feel more data would make me obsessively check and I already have a spreadsheet so...
Querying has been a great motivation to start new ideas. Definitely not just procrastination to send out new queries, nope

This looks awesome! And sounds intriguing as well, I'll eagerly await this one

A Japanese themed bookend on a bookshelf surrounded by various fantasy and science fiction books.
A quick look on my bookshelf as it starts to fill out! Love bookends but I have had to shift some things horizontal to keep it in. Only three or four more books to finish reading before I need to expand the whole shelf...

Exactly right! Always loved visiting the Trinnacle
Picture of a rocky edged valley taken from one side. A path runs down the valley and leads to a reservoir.
Picture from a hike at the weekend!
Always love getting around the Peak District, it's always been a huge inspiration for fantasy landscapes in my writing. And much nicer now spring is finally coming
Finally stared at Downdraft for long enough I have to (grudingly) admit its as good as its going to get - now to start querying! Fingers crossed!

Honestly I read this and thought 'Isn't that what it means?' then had to look it up... so I just learned a new word and that's pretty cool
So I guess... if you were published by one of the big guys in the US, don't assume they registered the copyright for all of your books. Go look your books up and find out:

A series of three books titled How to Survive Camping by Bonnie Quinn. In order; the man with no shadow, the lady in chains, and the horse-eater.
Been rereading one of my favourite series: How to Survive Camping by @bonniequinn.bsky.social !
Such a good horror series with the inhuman rooted in folklore, and a good sprinkling of dry humour throughout. Highly recommend!

Made some good progress on Downdraft tonight! Ploughing ahead with rewrites which I can already tell are for the betterment of the story. Just ready to be done with them now!
And just time in time - starting to get restless about starting some new projects...

Right? It's been a lot of fun to write!
Oeeh that sounds really fun, lots of fun themes to dive into there. Love a bit of mess and tragedy. I'll be eagerly looking out for more info!
Good luck!! Hope it goes well.
Downdraft is my main WIP - fantasy story about a retired adventurer recounting her journey to the birthplace of creation.
Right now working on the frame story of her as a retired adventurer rather than the main plot.
How about you? What project are you working on?
Long week, but now settling in for some weekend writing! The goal is another chapter complete on the frame story for Downdraft.
Anyone else got weekend writing goals?
