Really cool translation challenge. I've been working on a really cool translation challenge for the last 3 days. And I've nearly cracked the first 5 words. You'll love it. It...

Is this deliberately designed to make sure top grades go to native speakers rather than testing knowledge of anything learned in school?

A scientist with another language draws broader conclusions. A lawyer with a language builds a stronger case. A journalist with a language gets the real stories. A teacher with a language inspires the next generation. The power of languages takes you to a higher level, whatever field you're in.

A Level still contains questions that are not appropriate at this level. This one seems designed to reward native speakers and "feel" for connotation/collocation over and above any rules or knowledge learned in school. Too hard for many teachers!

Nearly 50% of A* grades for A Level German go to native speakers. The exams are too hard for pupils who have learned the language in school. The exam boards cite this as "discriminating well".

Dear Spanish teachers teaching El Laberinto Del Fauno at A Level. I had a few very productive lessons with Y13 last week describing all main characters and finding key words to enhance essay writing. Here are our findings, in case they are useful: #MFLBluesky

Another language is not just a new way of communicating. It’s an insight into another way of life. It’s your introduction to another culture’s music, sport, food, joy and fun. It’s a connection with other human beings. It takes you beyond your own surroundings. It’s a more open outlook on the world.

You don't have to be good at languages to create new connections, enjoy heightened experiences, discover other ways of thinking, relate to people whose experiences differ from yours or see the other side of the story. Another language will open your mind and elevate your life.

Not cheeky at all!We set up tables in one of our classrooms and put out lots of leaflets/ posters about careers with languages along with the course books and languages magazines. We also had a ppt on display with details of the course and lots of positive facts about learning languages!
