After nearly 2 years of work, I just finished the first(and only) shot of Limbo animatic! 125842 frames. The entire film is in a single Blender file!
As I understand it, because this was a scene in the movie within the movie, they were intentionally sloppy with continuity errors and exposing pieces of film equipment.

Here's a video I took while we were shooting. You can see on the upper right Tomas pouring water into a tube that runs between 2 panes of glass in front of the handheld camera Greig operates, giving a smeary, drippy look. Ryan stands in a cage of blinking IR lights which are invisible to the naked eye, but in the monitor it's beautiful. We used this method for closeups. Medium-wides we did on the spaceship set with fewer lights & a lot of digital augmentation/replacement from ILM, and wides were fully digital from ILM, to match this look.
Many people are spreading misinformation about how certain shots were achieved in “Project Hail Mary” — director Christopher Miller and ILM are out there clarifying. Note to film fans on social media: if you don’t know how something was done, don’t just guess and claim the guess as fact.
