In a similar vein, the books are so full of sex that it loses its impact (to me, anyway) and so the most erotic scenes become ones like this.

In a fictional world of such incredible cruelty and darkness, I find myself flinching at the tiny acts of violence: Azhrarn crushing butterfly!Vasht under his heel, spitting into the Well of Immortality, striking Hazrond, Azhriaz spitting at her father, Narasen slapping Azhrarn and losing her hand

Also, I have many, many thoughts about the series so far

I have developed a soft spot for Vasht, which is very sad because she's such a minor character that I doubt I will see her again (or will I?? 🧐 I've yet to read Night's Sorceries or the short stories, but I don't have high hopes)

weirdly, the ending reminded me of the ending of Pentiment. I know, I know, they couldn't be more different but stick with me here... Azhrarn has renounced mankind, his daughter is mortal, and there's this sense that things have changed, maybe in ways we didn't want them to, but it's going to be ok

as the audience, wishing and hoping he would just love her but knowing that he can't or won't 😔 also very relatable

I really enjoyed the nuanced relationship between Azhrarn and his daughter, Azhriaz. As in, it hurt me a lot and I enjoyed that haha

I finished Delirium's Mistress by Tanith Lee last night and um wow ok how am I supposed to just go about my day after reading that?? (whole series spoilers ahead!!)
