A Society Exhausted by Repetition • EQUATOR A young Iranian weighs the protests in his country, and traces the line between hope and despair, in an essay delivered through a frail WhatsApp connection

"The disappointment here is not about foreign policy as such; it’s about the psychic damage of expectation. To be encouraged, even indirectly, to hope – and then to be left alone with the consequences of that hope."

Hear me out: When we look honestly at the state of the world, it's hard not to feel crushed. Many of us channel our grief and rage into structural work: building alternatives, organizing resistance, loving and tending to each other as best we can. But our ability to do so is shaped by the contexts in which we find ourselves: the freedom to protest, the resources
to build, the degree to which communities must overcompensate for systems that neither love nor tend to us, these are all hugely uneven.
Those living in wealthy nations, even if they oppose the violence carried out in their name, still benefit from their governments' pillage. And even when they protest, too little changes too slowly. The systems of extraction are global, but our pathways for repair are not.

on seeing and moving together reflections from Laos: on the long tail of war and on how we heal amid ongoing horrors

my recent time in Laos rearranged something deep inside me. i’m still making sense of it and what it might be asking of us.

here is one humble attempt...

on war’s long tail. on holding each other’s pain. on healing as communion. on Ambedkarite Buddhism. on seeing & moving as one:

what softness makes possible on giving form to ideas, making spaces to meet each other, and going beyond gestures...

This is a quiet, humble, reflective manifesto, but it is a manifesto nonetheless

"What we needed was not more education, but more spaces for witnessing. For presence. For turning toward and tending to each other."

Bravo @panthealee.bsky.social

How Climate Justice Reached the UN’s Top Court—and Won The International Court of Justice’s ruling that countries have a legal duty to curb climate change was the result of a years-long campaign that began with university students.

The International Court of Justice declared that states have legal duties—not just moral ones—to protect the climate. This landmark opinion, writes @panthealee.bsky.social, is part of a years-long campaign that began with university students.

Walking with the Sea Goddess On creating new rhythms, rethinking "the fight", gathering in care not crisis, and imagining new rituals of repair

as i emerge from a cocoon, some thoughts on settling in Taiwan, transitional justice, peer-held repair, etc.

been learning to attune to the slow, the quiet, the unseen. listening, remembering, walking 🌱

(and hi bluesky! happy to see what this is / can be...)

I am still dumbfounded that they made a war crime group chat on a civilian messaging service and invited a reporter to it. it's like there's no bar they can't slither under.
