Making it easier for more people to choose to bike would be a big win for Ottawa.
✅More bikes -> more visibility & safety for cyclists
✅Increases demand for more cost effective cycling infrastructure
✅ Decreases vehicle congestion-> Safer roads!

Too long in office with little or no opposition. The arrogance of power in which the people who should be working for us begin to think we work for them. As the saying goes power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Cars and cows converge in the cornfields, consuming 75% of the entire crop. They dominate almost every planetary boundary. lloydalter.substack.com/p/our-planet...
As an Edmontonian who has lived in Ottawa for 25 years, I can tell you the disparity in the quality of civic infrastructure is enormous.
Folks in #yeg love to complain, but stuff gets done there...usually done right.
#ottcity without the NCC is simply #autowah: NoTrain, potholes & broken sidewalks.
The beautiful (federally funded) War Museum, 1 of only 3 buildings in Ottawa to receive a GG Award in architecture, with broken, sidewalks and acres of road/pavement, crying out for municipal trees.
(Not a single muni building has ever won a GG award vs Edmonton which won 9, ½ in last decade)
Good morning Ottawa! Welcome to our walkable neighborhood. Don’t trip on the shattered curbs, busted sidewalk, or stumble into the pole we didn’t bother to remove.
Thank goodness for lowest taxes in the province!
A reminder that the literal *opposite* of whatever Donald Trump (and his GOP enablers) say is usually true:
The #Amazon is closer to a tipping point than we think, and #environmentalcrime is pushing it faster. I joined Carlos Nobre, one of the world’s leading Amazon scientists, and Ilona Szabo to unpack the risks and responses in @mongabay.com. @igarapeorg.bsky.social news.mongabay.com/2026/04/the-...

Good overview of the fossil energy crisis here from @ember. Unlike the scenario with previous price shocks, today the clean alternatives are "cheaper, faster and more secure, bringing with it irreversible consequences for an even bigger segment of fossil demand."

You would think with the amount of money he is getting from taxpayers that he would driving a nice high end EV.
Did you know that only ~1/3 of the world's crops are actually eaten as *food*?
Amazingly, we lose a little more than half of our crops to biofuels and inefficient feedlots.
In other words, less than half of the world's crop calories actually become available as food.

Elon Musk is now worth over $800 billion.
Tesla reported paying ZERO federal income tax on $5.7 billion of U.S. income in 2025.
Meanwhile, millions of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and household debt has risen to a record high.
This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

It will be historic.
Suneeta Millington’s recent Macleans article on "The Uglification of Canada" should resonate deeply in Ottawa. When poor design becomes normalized, it spreads — and the costs, civic and economic, compound over time if left unchecked. 1/ macleans.ca/culture/the-...
Mark Carney has pledged $1B to help Equinor, the Norwegian oil company behind the Bay du Nord offshore oil project.
No, this is NOT an April fool's joke. We wish it was.
APRIL FOOLS! Alas, 1 of my grandfathers was a bus driver, & the other a reluctant lawyer, & both lived in the GTA. (The train/tunnel pic is AI, but pretty much how I presume the scene looked.)

The LNG we import in Europe is far from clean.
Visible methane plumes at US gas sites rated “grade A” resulting in much higher upstream emissions.
Auditors don’t measure emissions — they review operator data that studies show is massively understated.

Alberta separatism isn’t motivated by equalization policies, Senate seats, carbon taxes or oil. These tired complaints may ride shotgun on independence, but bigotry drives the truck.

This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.
