This one time on Twitter, @lecagle.bsky.social asked ppl to link to 1 pub of theirs they loved, but maybe slipped under the radar. I got SO many good recs from that list, so I wanted to replicate it here: link to one of your pubs that you wish more people read/cited!

I remember it from one of the Bedford guides to teaching writing. Elements of teaching writing by Gottschalk and Hjortshoj. I use that metaphor all the time

Being yourself, finding your way through a sea of language and information is an absolutely worthwhile process to take your time with.

Use your voice until you can hear how beautiful it is, far more beautiful than anything a LLM can produce.

Treasure your voice even in small ways. Its precious

This framing is their framing, and NYT took the bait. The correct and accurate framing is: “Deep cuts to medical research threatens progress on cancer and heart disease research, costs the economy $80B, and threatens 300,000 jobs across red and blue states”

What a great sounding book!

Yeah it’s a bit of a hot take so I’m just looking at the pull quote. If it’s meant to capture the core argument, then it seems more like a tell on how cable news operates than a novel argument.

I’m sure there are some #teamrhetoric or #writingstudies folks out there with good ideas

I mean … this isn’t that new of an idea. And it seems like a real tell that his work focus is all attention and not news, fact, or truth. Haven’t read the book or article yet so maybe I’m missing something but not terribly impressed with this.

My dog is the same way but he attempts and often succeeds in waking the whole house with his snorting and grunting before going back to sleep by himself :).

Agreed - learning how to learn is a vital skill. Particularly when technology accelerates the pace of change. A challenge is making sure colleges prioritize this at a time when direct lines between degrees and jobs are far more valued. We can do both but we often don’t.

Thanks for this. I’m not so much looking for resources to teach sustainability as a topic but more at what makes teaching itself (and our courses and curricula) sustainable.

Curious if anyone has literature recommendations for sustainable teaching practices or sustainability at the course level? I’m working with depts to better support faculty teaching writing across disciplines #teamrhetoric #edusky #highered

Bluesky academics, let's get to know each other! Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you are working on & 2) a random idea/theory you aren't working on bt keep thinking about.
Here's mine:
1) chapter on holistic access to explore writing, access, & authentic learning
2) economies of attention
