Religion is basically deifying brain farts. Any random thought can be the divine murmurings of a god. Any god will do.

When enough people share objectively insane, delusional beliefs we call it religion and we give them tax breaks

I know homes like that. Command and control. The yelling. The "tough love" discipline. Spiritual warfare against the "rebellious spirit" of "the enemy" natural in children. The tears. The silent rebellion. Home schooling. Tight social restrictions to prevent the intrusion of "secular culture." SAD

It’s so sad to see wave after wave of reinterpretation and reconsideration of Bronze Age bullsh*t driving politics in the 21st century.

Harkening back to primitive myths about gods and monsters and saviors and saints is just embarrassing.

Trump is a loathsome human, straight up. Enough god talk!

I think it’s Reich who makes the point that government creates the playing field, establishes the ground rules by which businesses all must operate, whether strict or lax. Business isn’t conducted in a vacuum or some state of wild nature. Business today is running rough shod over the environment.

Donald Trump Promises Evangelicals 'Great Power,' Higher Church Attendance Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump promised a group of pastors Thursday that he will unmuzzle and empower the silenced church and increase church attendance by repealing the Johnson

Because Trump promised them POWER.
They sought great cultural POWER.
So they supported Trump.
And still do.

Power (aka followers) defines orthodoxy, and always has. Even the Catholic Church bends to popular opinion, so while it's likely that Vance is viewed by Catholics as a newcomer and a charlatan, he holds political sway, and so may inflict his heretical will on Rome--at least among some followers.

There is no pure capitalism, no un-regulated capitalism, but there's under-regulated capitalism, and we're suffering from it

Consider the Biblical Abrahamic god Yahweh, he is considered the ultimate creator of the universe, he made people, plants, animals, everything, right?

But when you try to interrogate the essence and the mind of Yahweh, Christians say, "He's inscrutable, he's not of this mortal plane!"

*POOF!*

Because patriarchs look out for each other; the power structure is defended by patriarchs. The church is patriarchal because the Bible is patriarchal because Yahweh is a patriarch. Women are second class citizens, conceived as mere supporters of a male partner rather than fully individuated people.

Religion is best understood as a magical industry with dozens of competitors vying for customers, selling fantastical promises of eternal benefits, largely tax-exempt. Old and new brands, startups, entrepreneurs, revenues, expenses, wildly varying products—but never any warranty claims.

We should all aim for an ever clearer picture of natural reality. It’s where we live and what we share. If we love truth and one another, let’s work to eliminate the false ideas that cloud and interfere with our common experience

Well, there’s another big reason, and you allude to it: supernatural beliefs are not subject to empirical evidence, so people can maintain any sort of custom beliefs they wish, free from factual refutation. And who doesn’t love a personal reality bubble? Change it any time to fit your heart’s desire
