Diptich painting done on repurposed wood laminate shelves. Shows stylized forest in fall. Original wood laminate used as negative space to create tree trunks. Sneering female face overlaid over top of landscape.

[also if you're reading my resume the line about visual arts isn't BS! I just rarely post!]

stylized painting of woman diving into lake at sunset. A rock protrudes from the surface, and appears to create a great underwater cliff. The hills in the background of the lake appear human.

Painting of stylized orange hands grasping upwards as if drowning with keyboard keys glued around the hands.

The Vancouver works (yes, that is authentic Mac book keyboard - I did some repairs and had to pry up the keys and kept them because uh, vision I guess 😅)

Google Streetview shot of looking down Av Mont-Royal towards the Mountain (looking West) in Montreal at the corner of Garnier. It shows Dépanneur Opéra and the neon "beer, wine, flowers" sign in the window of the store.

I'll clarify that these are real views you could have (paintings based off of photo reference), not some random juxtaposition.

The Albion Hotel is prohibition era famous (the are tunnels to the Basilica, which facilitated smuggling). Dépanneur Opéra is less obvious but it's mainly a plant store but with some dep features, which I presume is to take advantage of regulatory carveouts for deps.

at the risk of over-explaining, the paintings are "the same" in composition to reflect the parallels. In both Guelph and Montreal there are building code regs to avoid blocking the Basilica and the Mountain sight corridors, respectively. Both are the primary visual landmark.

Two side by side paintings on a wall. The left depicts the Basilica of Our Lady in Guelph, with the Albion Hotel sign in the foreground. The painting on the right shows Dépanneur Opera’s “beer, wine and flowers” translated from French with the Mont Royal cross in the background. Both paintings have the similar compositions.

I did the same painting about Guelph and Montreal (neon alcohol and primary city landmark of neon Catholicism). Much to consider

a lot of the computers stuff that I perceive would be helpful in law is stuff that could be done is pretty basic programming stuff, like say doing court forms with LaTeX instead of using precedents and inevitably forgetting to copy pasta something properly.

maybe my perception is biased but I've yet to meet someone in law who defected from STEM who is enthusiastic about the use of LLMs for legal research or drafting. I'm sure some people will apply to these jobs but probably not the people who are most qualified to do it (catch 22)

law job ads be like: "we're looking to hire lawyers with tech background to train AI!"

no thanks lol

and on the flip side, what about lawsuits from LGTBQ+ groups or other public interest groups (e.g. student union)? There isn't usually a free lunch (no risk) option in these scenarios.

so like, many institutions/employers instituted vaccine mandates re: covid. It was pretty obvious that this was going to create a lot of lawsuits from employees or other impacted persons. These institutions did it anyways. Some people did sue, and they mostly all lost.

I guess one thing with the law that isn't obvious is that just because someone might sue you over something doesn't mean you can't do it, and it doesn't mean they will be successful in suing you. Institutions can choose to do what they want with the risk their counsel advises them of

Also outside of the language barrier, it is difficult to get a doctor’s appointment if you don’t have institutional access and lack a GP. I move around a lot and when I’ve not been a student it’s been a scramble to access care

I am guessing McGill is probably still permitting providers to prescribe the abortion pill to those from states that have restricted it? If so, why not concerned about liability here?

1 day ago 2 0 1 1

Wow. Cowardly move. Remember when the federal government said those impacted by the overturning of Roe v Wade were welcome to get abortions in Canada?

while my statement might seem like it supports what Stancil was saying, what it really is is a failure of the mainstream left to engage with core issues like workers' rights and the environment, and instead capitulate to landlord, corporate and manager grievances

Ironically, I think it was kind of fun to have some of society's rigid expectations removed. No traffic, no tourists, work from home when it makes sense, no pressure to keep a certain schedule. I think if a lot of people are really honest with themselves they are more miserable w those back

Corollary: the people who still care about Covid were mostly people who didn’t have the Tiger King and sourdough experience.

Quebec is cool because the official social media accounts have a sense of humour, which is something Ontario could never contemplate

but if you're seeing enemies in everything, it is time to touch grass, log off, whatever you want to call that, and connect with people you care about and who care about you. You don't need to win on the internet.
