NOT SO FUN FACT—half of all U.S. war casualties during WWI were due to influenza. Today—Trump’s War Secretary remove the flu vaccine requirement for all U.S. military. Plus, bragging about this to all enemies is just absolute idiocy. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Happy #caturday! Elsa, the stray kitty I fed during the cold & snowy winter, has been adopted 😺 The bed she slept in outdoors went with her to her new home 😊
I don't see that much has changed since time covered in this article. We knew trafficking & rape, esp. child rape, should be viewed as serious crimes before and after the '80s, '90s. Yet, we continue to look away if crimes are committed by wealthy powerful men (with v few exceptions).
Elsa, the stray kitty that I fed Feb-March, is now ready for adoption at Quincy Animal Shelter (MA). She has become friendlier each time I visit & is very sweet. I hope someone chooses to adopt her today 😻 #caturday
OMG. This reminds me of one of #NYTimes' 1st experiments using digital content to raise $$ from secondary sources. In late 90s, they offered a selection of articles delivered daily by fax to cruise ships. Can't remember the name, but I licensed a version for SoftBook Press.
The Exhibit/Keynotes pass is a fantastic way to get introduced to the value of #BioITWorld. For years, I attended with a pass and now I chair the #KnowledgeGraphs symposium on opening day of #BioITExpo. Apply now--passes are complimentary until April 10. www.bio-itworldexpo.com/exhibit-hall...
Iran may be pummelled on the battlefield, but the regime is winning the energy war. The country’s oil machine has adapted in ways that make it more resilient to strikes and sanctions econ.st/4s0BoqQ

A GMC Yukon was filling up at the pump in front of me yesterday. I put $20 in my Prius to fill the tank. He took a picture of his total, but was busy doing something (posting the pic to social?), so I had to back out and didn't see his total.
Did Mr. Joaquin tell you that his birth name was David Henry Thoreau? I learned that and other new (to me) things about Thoreau's time working in his family's pencil company from reading The Pencil by Henry Petroski (I belong to a nerdy book club). Btw, tomorrow 3/30 is National Pencil Day!
While the situation is grim at NIH, it's closer to catastrophic at NSF. They're just not able to move any money out the door. It appears OMB has them on lockdown. www.science.org/content/arti....
And here I am on one of my favorite podcasts, Criminal, talking with Phoebe Judge about the federal government deliberately poisoning American citizens during Prohibition. (In case you wondered, if earlier administrations were also murderous.)

I have 2 elderly cats that I adore. But for #caturday, I'm highlighting the outdoor cat I fed thru coldest & snowiest period of winter. With help from local animal shelter, we caught her & she is at the vet today being spayed & vaxxed. Became friendly, so I expect she'll be put up for adoption.
Cool! I share roots with the Peck family.
Strongly agree the title pun is perfect. Body of article is good, too. Most surveys are poorly constructed.

This will be something that seems like a drop in our daily dumpster fire life, but mark my words, it will be cited in history books.
"Russian flu," the pandemic that hit in 1977, bears an evolutionary signature of having emerged from a lab, perhaps as part of a failed vaccine effort. Covid, mpox, Ebola, and other influenza pandemics don't. Here's my story on a new way to trace the origins of pandemics. Gift link: nyti.ms/46N0W33
I don't think you have to Nostradamus to figure that bombing Iran might raise oil prices. And it seems pretty obvious that buying oil in advance of causing an oil price spike might just save Americans a lot of money. But...
...maybe there wasn't much planning?
This month is 40 years since @julierovner.bsky.social began reporting on health policy in Washington.
To mark the anniversary, Rovner speaks with two longtime sources to discuss what has — and has not — changed since 1986.
I credit @hjluks.bsky.social for explaining this to me years ago via his blog. Still, fellow tennis players look at me with horror when I say that I hope to never need to have an MRI.
And it's not just cervical cancer it can prevent. It can also prevent oral cancer, which is often caused by HPV.
My statement on President Trump's Strikes on Iran:
Republican and former Trump Surgeon General Jerome Adams comes out again Casey Means nomination. She is unqualified. Full stop.
