A reminder while Republicans bitch about Dems finishing the redistricting fight they started: they have full control of gov’t— they can pass a law banning gerrymandering any time they want. They won’t. Republicans aren’t mad gerrymandering exists; they’re mad that they’re not the only ones using it.

Social media and group chats have microwaved the brains of the ruling and media class. They set that shit to POPCORN and let it go until it smelled like burning.
Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.
Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
Conservatives think the state should protect them from the traumatizing experience of encountering people unlike them. For some reason this never came up in the heyday of “snowflake,” “trigger warning” or “safe space” discourse bsky.app/profile/kiss...
The solution to this, obviously, is to make exciting new stuff that gets people engaged in the here and now, but sure, try to do your Avengers Endgame legacy sequel and see how that works out. Go for it, Disney. You geniuses.
The sheer lack of enthusiasm my students have for the MCU these days is kind of astonishing. Even my passing references to it don’t really land anymore. If they’re 19 or 20, Endgame was when they were in elementary or middle school. Marvel hasn’t been relevant since they were literal children.
TFW you’ve failed so hard for so many years you have to re-release a movie from 2019 and put new footage in it to trick people into thinking that nothing from 2020 to 2025 actually happened.
Like, if the biggest thing people have to complain about on modern Macs and iPhones is disliking the look of Liquid Glass (which you can mostly turn off)...I'll take that over whatever weird shit Microsoft or Google or Facebook is doing any day of the week, please and thank you.
I think that's really core to Apple's appeal: They have a few weird offshoots like TV+ or Vision Pro, but they aren't making dumb radical shifts every few years to completely upend the user experience (looking at you, Microsoft). If you liked Apple in 2010, you probably still do in 2026.
For the most part, Cook's Apple kept its eye on what the company does best - good hardware that's very powerful but user-friendly - without going on a million stupid side quests the way every other Silicon Valley giant does (no metaverse, no crypto, no AI data centers, etc.). Hope that continues.
Apple had a few notable missteps under Cook (the late 2010s touchbar Macs), and his Trump ass-kissing has been awful, but for the most part I think it's notable how *little* controversy Apple has courted relative to the rest of Silicon Valley during his tenure.
I won't pretend to have a deep understanding of Apple's inner workings, but Ternus has been VP of hardware engineering in the 2020s, when Apple's hardware (particularly on the Mac side) has been better than ever, so hopefully that's a good sign. And hopefully he's less of a Trump kiss-ass too.
Browsing this company's website and the only way I can describe what I'm seeing is imagine a school shooter was a management consultant
Typing into my notes app instead of my actual word processor program also helps sometimes, to just take the pressure off. Then I can throw what I write into the “real” app and start working with it seriously. Any little tricks like this to make the words start flowing help.
My strategy is to start typing thoughts up as “notes,” both to get thoughts on the page, and to trick my brain into thinking I’m writing something lower stakes than the actual finished piece. Then after a few sentences instinct kicks in and a lot of what I write becomes usable anyway.
Salute to an all-time tweet
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Mike Nellis @MikeNellis "I'M NO LONGER CATHOLIC!" Hannity ABANDONS HIS FAITH for Trump NELLIS X.com • +*+
Amazing that in the national divorce the libs are getting the NFL, butter and cooking oil, being attracted to adult women, standup comedy, Bud Light, and now also Catholicism
This is a valid point: whenever you see this sort of high-pressure sales tactic turned on a technology, you can be CERTAIN that it's a fake—actually useful new tech sells itself!
And don't underestimate the effectiveness of FOMO as a tool in the hands of a con artist.
The New Yorker, "Wondering why people are pining for old technologies - CD players, VCRs, Walkmans. What's behind our longing for inconvenience?"
Inconvenience? I just had to dig seven pages deep to find the unsubscribe for one of the four TV subscriptions I need, I'm measured & optimized against in my supermarket, lamps, music, games, and travel. Every service I love gets enshittified to buy billionaires yachts worth 100 times my house.
Fucking legendary, omg. I love it.
I want to frame that McDonald’s wrapper and hang it on my wall, omg.
This is good news. If we win the Senate - which is looking increasingly likely! - that means Alito either can’t retire, or can’t get a replacement confirmed, and that makes rebalancing the court under a Dem presidency in 2028 a lot more likely.
yeah it is critical that dems win the senate
to hesitate on this while trailing by 20+ in a Democratic primary
Thr South Korean president criticized Israel, Israel got super mad about the mention of the Holocaust, and not the far worse reference. The president compared them to imperial Japan, which is like the worst thing a Korean can call anyone or anything www.theverge.com/policy/91358...
Yup. Or a superhero show that had the hero facing new threats each week instead of 1 threat per season (or multiple seasons?)
I think part of the reason the Pope thing is hitting so much is that modern life is so devoid of *any* morality, any system of right and wrong that is not completely hollow and fraudulent, which hits as halfway sensible and opposed to Trump and those like him, feels absolutely revolutionary
