heartwarming video of astronaut Christina Koch greeting her dog for the first time after returning from space. the pup can be seen snarling, back arched, before scampering to its word buttons and pressing "IMPOSTOR" repeatedly, then "FALSE. SKIN. FALSE. SKIN." several times

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

two of the hardest things ever written are "face god and walk backwards into hell" and "you cannot kill me in a way that matters"

one of them came from a tumblr shitpost and the other one came from a dril tweet about hollering at zoo animals

Does it work properly? No.
Are the people making it acting in good faith? No.
Have they ensured it can't be used maliciously? No.
Does it make people's lives better? No.
Will it make people's lives better? No.
Is it profitable? No.
Is it popular? No.
Is it harmless? No.

user abbiistabbii:
The Germans really cooked making "Hobbyless behaviour" an insult. It is both devastating, applicable to a wide range of people and behaviours, and doesn't resort to swearing.

Man ranting on the internet about the Superbowl halftime show or complaining that something is "woke"? Hobbyless Behaviour. Girls mocking another girl for not looking right? Hobbyless Behaviour. Mindless vandalism? Hobbyless Behaviour.

It is more powerful than "get a life" or the English "You're Sad" because it gets to the central point of the matter, and that is wonderful. Danke, Deutsch.

I don't normally subscribe to the "German has a word for it" thing because all languages can invent and borrow new words!

That said, I can't stop thinking about "hobbyless" as an insult since I saw it a few days ago, so here you go

It promotes a growth mindset!!

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Watched by Branson Reese 28 Apr 2022

Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

based on how often the naughty teens of major cities throw the rentable scooters directly into the river i've formed a theory that the many iron age swords and cauldrons found in lakes around europe that we've previously assumed were ceremonial and sacrificial in nature were in fact thrown by teens

Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

I just want everyone to have the experience of living in dignity with access to sufficient food, safe housing, needed medical care, high quality education, and time to engage with what sparks their curiosity and spirit

this should not be controversial 🫠

The world is full of sourdough bakers and people who nurse injured birds back to health, scientists studying the lunar migration of moths, farmers who want to restore health back to the tired soil, and hippies who hug trees and dream of moss 💚

Corpse Compact
Consumable, Uncommon

This small cosmetic compact has a disconcerting aura around it. The outside is decorated with carved bone that resembles skulls and faces twisted in gnarled screams. When opening the compact, you are assaulted by the smell of death and decay. The mirror inside is shattered in the pattern of a skull and the powder within swirls up to form a ghostly apparition.

You can spend one minute applying this powder to your face granting you the appearance of being undead for the next 1 hour. During that time, you are indistinguishable from a ghoul. If given a reason to suspect that you are not undead, a creature can attempt a DC 17 Investigation check to see through the illusion. While you are under the effects of this compact, you are harmed by healing magic and are healed by necrotic damage. After using this compact once, it loses its magical properties, but can still be used as a normal compact.

A four panel meme, featuring John Connor talking to The Terminator, from Terminator 2

John: Wait a second, you’re saying you’re from the future?

Terminator: Great question! Thanks so much for asking. Let’s think about the answer…hmm! The current year is 1983. Working backwards logically, I’m from the year 1965, which is 300 years in the future. Anything else you’d like to know?

John - stares blankly

Terminator: I’m sorry, I can see that was not the right answer. I actually came from the year 829392 AD, which is 10 years in the past from this year, which is 3
