Just got advertised "protein cold foam". Sounds like the kind of product they'd make in a Carry On movie.

For many, Rob Grant and Doug Naylor were Red Dwarf, but I must admit my favourite thing of all of theirs remains Son of Cliche on Radio 4, which I seem to recall I got into because it had the supporting cast out of Carrott's Lib. RIP RG.

89. The Smiths - Ask (Rough Trade) All the singles to top the NME Indie Charts since its launch in 1981, complete with an overview of the other music in the charts each week.

Blog Update: The Smiths "Ask" topped the NME Indie Charts in November 1986 and became one of their biggest singles. It's one of the few optimistic, uptempo, dancefloor jigs in their catalogue. Did it offer good advice to teens, though? Depends, I suppose...

William Blake’s illustration for “The Tyger” has what appears to be a dippy grin for some reason.

William Blake’s illustration for “The Tyger” has what appears to be a dippy grin for some reason.

The wonderful thing about Tyggers
Is Tyggers are burning bright
Their tops are made out of rubber
In the forest of the night

What bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy,
Immortal hand or eye
Did frame the most wonderful thing about Tyggers,
Their fearful symmetry!

You can only beat what's in front of you, and far too often today whatever was in front of Scotland it certainly wasn't the English defence.

In 1994 I worked on an expansion card to play Video CDs on your computer.

Come launch day, we couldn't get clearance to show any commercial titles (A Fish Called Wanda, Naked Gun, Four Weddings) at the trade show.

I rang the Kate Bush fan club. Did they know who might OK using The Whole Story VCD?

By not being part of this, F1 has the moral high ground over other sports for the first time in forever.

84. The Smiths - Panic (Rough Trade) All the singles to top the NME Indie Charts since its launch in 1981, complete with an overview of the other music in the charts each week.

Blog update: The Smiths "Panic" was, predictably enough, number one in the NME indie charts in August 1986 - a song in which Morrissey discarded wit and lyrical dexterity for brash slogans, accompanied by interviews which made things even worse.

A very happy "fuck you" to John Stallard of Warlord Games, who is worried about "wokeism" killing wargames and thinks women don't play them, possibly because women don't want to hang around twats like John.

And how did taking on female wargamers go for the non-"woke" side last time, John?

At least Rose Royce and Sylvester are on the main list but relegating One Nation Under A Groove to the disco list is poor. Do find it interesting that The Electrician and YMCA are next to each other - that's a more nuanced portrait of the era than a lot of punk or nothing types would go for.

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

oomf who is a librarian had to take down the David Walliams poster at work today and said it felt like pulling down the big Saddam Hussein statue in Baghdad in 2003

3 months ago 1547 287 16 3

David Walliams' reputation was an open secret, junior staff were told to meet him in pairs & never visit his home, yet HarperCollins only dropped him when a Telegraph investigation came out. The problem is not just him. HarperCollins knowingly promoted & funded a guy sexually harassing junior staff.

I just can’t believe the news about Rob and Michele Reiner, it’s just too awful and sad. Rob’s work is woven throughout my entire life. It’s too big a loss.

4 months ago 10 1 1 0

I'm not even going to repost a screengrab of his post about Rob Reiner but man it really needs to be said every single day: Trump truly is the biggest piece of shit in the world, a man of absolutely no good qualities and seemingly limitless bad ones. Support for him is just so damning.
