Qanon was a brilliant op because they got millions of conspiracy-brained reactionaries from Alex Jones to that guy who yells about fluoride at every town hall to become PRO Black Van.

"Zohran Mamdani is a job-killer, not a job-creator," continued Andrew Cuomo. "Not like me. I've created jobs. Mortuaries, mass grave facilities managers, trauma therapists, pepper spray salespeople, sexual assault hotline operators -- they'll all tell you. That's what I told my good friend Don."

Andrew Cuomo tweet:

In case you forgot, I’m Andrew Cuomo, son of Mario, grandson of Andrea.

Welcome to the heavyweight bout, @ZohranKMamdani

This is a two man race. You look tired already. It’s just the second round.

What if there were already some sort of contest where people were able to choose between them, I wonder how that would go

This is so frustrating because it almost certainly played no role in this specific disaster. However, over the long term, this is a problem. And the active and proposed budget cuts further imperil this work. But trying to separate the two is impossible.

Worth noting, I think, that the organization behind Canary Mission is entirely based in Israel. So ICE was using information to make these arrests from an Israeli company.

The New Jersey legislature is sitting on a bunch of legislation advanced by state Senator Troy Singleton that would very gently make it easier to build ADUs and density near transit. They are not moving that stuff, but they continue to advance new restrictions on development. They're doing it wrong.

From former NHC Hurricane Specialist and Hurricane Specialist Unit Chief, "So what happens at NHC if NOAA Research is shut down?

Right away, the Doppler radar missions would stop, along with the forecast improvement they bring.

Almost certainly by next year, some of the most important intensity models would fall out of service, degrading NHC’s intensity forecasts.

Websites that provide forecasters with crucial satellite analyses would break. Intensity estimates for storms beyond aircraft range would be degraded. Formation forecasts for disturbances would likely become less accurate.

Longer term, I think track forecasts would continue to get better, but at a slower pace. Intensity forecasts, however, would likely stagnate or even regress."

Important post from @franklinjamesl.bsky.social this afternoon about what the proposed NOAA cuts would mean for hurricane forecasting (from the person who oversaw the NHC's hurricane forecasters)

As floodwaters surged across central Texas last week, officials at FEMA leapt into action, preparing to deploy critical search and rescue teams and life-saving resources, like they have in past disasters.

But almost instantly, FEMA ran into bureaucratic obstacles, four agency officials told CNN.
