Somewhere in your WiFi connection settings, there will be a place to set a DNS server. Set it to 8.8.8.8, which is the IP address for one of google’s public DNS servers and is definitely not shitty. The change will take effect immediately, no need to reboot.

To me that sounds like it might be DNS? DNS is the thing that converts a URL to an IP address. If it doesn’t work then your computer can’t actually talk to a website even with a WiFi connection. It’s normally provided by your ISP, so if they are shitty their DNS server may be shitty too.

I’ve never needed more than the wol cli tool. If I need to do it remotely I just ssh into something else on the LAN. I only do it if I’m on a trip and forgot some file on my main desktop or something.

i really struggle to understand how anyone could behave this way. i mean, intellectually, i get it. i research monsters for a living. i know they’re real.
